Will definitely stay there

by Hoe Weng Seng from Malaysia, 21 May 05

I honestly have no comment at all except, would like to personally thank the two male check-in staff for being so apologetic and courtesy by upgrading our room to a service apartment suite as our room have been taken up due to our late arrival (i.e. 11.30 pm) as a result of flight delay.

Thank you for handling the situation professionally.

Needs renovating

by Paul Lim from Tucson, Arizona USA, 1 Jun 05

I've been a frequent traveler to Bangkok for nearly 18 years. I lived there for several years in the early 90's. Sadly, while enormous change has occurred throughout Thailand - The Ambassador has stood still. I stayed there last in 1993. 12 years later and they've done little or nothing to upgrade the hotel. It's still huge, but it's a mess. Dirty, worn carpet; the room was a mess, and the service never was very good. When I asked about arranging a car to Kanchanaburi for the day, the rude, vulgar man in the white uniform at the car service started yelling and insulting me when I said the price was too high and I might be back. He didn't know I speak Thai.

After 4 nights there, I checked out and went got a great room deal at the Landmark.

The hotel was OK...

by Ron from Guam, 16 Oct 05

Good location. However, make sure you specify smoking or non-smoking room. The Hotel in my opinion is 2-stars but then again, for the price (which includes breakfast), you can't beat it. There is a service charge of 600 baht if you bring a guest to the room...NOT GOOD! Would I stay there again? Probably not, better to pay a little more for better rooms/service.

Good value for your money.........

by David M.B. Smith from U.K., 26 Mar 06

The Ambassador is in the process of renovation, and probably this should have been done before now !!

However with an excellent location and friendly staff, for the money it can not be faulted.

With the "in house" Dickens bar having very good live music every night, you need not go out all the time for entertainment.

One slight moan ........... reception needs speeding up for booking in and out.
All in all though, this is a very good value mid range hotel.

700 Baht to the airport??

by Gary Van Haneghan from New York, 12 Apr 06

This hotel used to be great value, but today they have done nothing to keep it up and have significantly increased their rates and is not even a good value. I have stayed here many times, but never again. The staff is rude and will not even call a cab for you if one is not 'at their front door'. They want only their limo service to take you to the airport and charge you 700 baht. Regular taxi fare is around 150. Arrogant, rude and completely unprofessional. Don't stay here, there are many great values close by where your business is appreciated.

Run down hotel

by A.A., 12 Jun 06

The Ambassador it is not what you might think. I booked Main Wing. Plenty of noise during the day due to ongoing work ( I was not informed ). Red tape minded staff, asking you to provide a deposit upon arrival. The room was run down. Very expesive for what you get.

Not recommended

by L. R., 7 Jul 06

I got a room in the main wing. The place is under renovation (badly needed!) and there is a lot of noise from workers. Service is poor; a lot of red tape under registration when you are asked for a deposit even if you have already paid and present a voucher. I did not like the place; there are much better options around there.

You only neeed a room to sleep? This is the place

by Anonymous User, 23 Aug 06

I have stayed here a couple of times. the location is the only reason why I stayed at this place.

The Rooms desperately need renovation. They will charge you if you get a guest along. Breakfast is good and quality of room service is also excellent.

I am going back for the third stay.

by Jason Ong Oon Hoe from Singapore, 22 Sep 06

I stayed for two nights on both the old and new wings. I like the standard rooms on the old wings better than the new wings. They have smaller but comfortable and seemingly cleaner rooms. They are cheaper too.

The staffs are friendly and the location is fantastic. The monorail line is just about 100m away, and you can get to most part of the town with it.

Excellent Value

by Gary, 24 Nov 06

The place is under renovation but I had no problem with worker noise, my room looked like it had not been updated for a long time, however it was clean and tidy and everything worked, staff friendly at front desk check in was smooth, eating areas and food good, maybe a little overpriced.

They have non-smoking rooms next to smoking rooms so if the person in the next room will smoke the smell gets in under the door - this is bad.

If all you need is a clean quiet and safe place to sleep and are not to fussy, this place is very good value and close to transport, don't expect a view over the city, I had a view out the window of a gray wall, however I did get a good nights sleep at this place and a good price.

Don't take the hotel taxi to the airport (overpriced and drivers not friendly) walk out to the street and hail one passing by the area.
