Not so good

by from Netherlands, 13 Sep 07

The rooms were smelly band dirty, the bed was OK, the bathroom also, but the wall and the floors were dirty.

The staff was friendly, and the breakfast ok.
The hotel is still 25 min drive from the airport!

I wouldn't go there again for my last night before I fly!

Bangkok Hotel

by Jessica Pena from Australia, 7 Mar 07

It costs 200baht from the airport by a meter taxi when it's only meant to be a few kilometers away from the airport. Whilst going into Bangkok city centre only cost 160 Baht.

The hotel is about 30-45minutes from the airport & not 10minutes as the site advertises.

Hotel Location far from shopping mall

by Mr. Lim from Singapore, 9 Jun 07

Location far from shopping area like Central Bangna, Seacon. Walking cannot be reach, no restaurant around the hotel. Not far from new airport but airport meter taxi charge 350 THB without running the meter to the hotel. I think it's too high. Hotel room is Ok, big and comfortable.

The hotel was pretty far away from the airport. The rooms smelt not nice, the rooms were old, the walls dirty, the bathroom was ok, and clean. The bed was ok. The breakfast and staff were nice.

We will join this hotel again

by Scheurich Fritz from Moraira, Spain, 18 Mar 07

In good location on the way to the airport, the Avana for example is a fine option to stay before an early flight or even after. Fair prices.

In addition, the food in the restaurant was excellent, and we enjoyed to go shopping in a near and large Center.

Clean, comfortable and close to the airport

by Sophie Guerin from Beijing, China, 14 Mar 07

We were looking for a place close to the airport as we had to catch an early flight out of Bangkok. The only thing closer was the Novotel which started at 300USD a night, totally out of our price range. We had been staying in a 150Baht a night bungalow on Koh Lipe and wanted to spend a little extra money on a decent hotel with hot water. We paid 33USD for an upgraded room on the 18th floor with our own balcony. We had a huge bed and a modern bathroom.

The only downside of the place is that since it is close to the airport there isn't much around it. The only places to have dinner were the hotel restaurant (gross) or a place called 13 Coins. 13 Coins is like a Thai Sizzler. Its got Thai food and Western food. There is a pirate ship on the premises and you can have dinner on "the deck." The food is not that cheap either. We did order a plate of the soft shelled crab and I will say that it was very very tasty so its not all bad. The Avana is a great place to stay for an overnight, any longer and I say find a place closer to the center of town.

Hotel transport

by RAJARATNAM RUDHRA from uk, 5 Jan 07

Everything is fine, apart from the hotel transport guy in the hotel reception charges well over double sometimes triple the amount of the general taxi fares. Since I am a first time visitor to BKK i am well disappointed over his charges once I learnt the original taxi fare. Hope hotel will take some action, to have a reasonable charge, or should not encourage hotel taxi/ transport service.

Great value for price

by Dr. Karen Wrobbel from Fox River Grove, IL, USA, 4 Jul 07

I stayed at the Avana for a week while guest teaching at nearby International Community School. Staff was friendly & helpful & enough spoke English that we could communicate. For the price, this is an excellent value. Rooms are a bit "tired" (could use fresh paint) but it's clean & staff helpful.

It is not exactly close to the airport but after a late-night flight or for early morning, takes about 25 minutes. With meter taxi, expect to pay about 250 Baht. No good food options within walking distance (other than hotel which is OK, not great) but Central City mall is short taxi ride (about 45-50 Baht, depending on traffic) & has many choices at a variety of prices. Staff will call a taxi for you. To come back from mall, cross highway on footbridge & catch the taxi there (to save the distance of the U turn necessary because of one way streets). Not a good location for sightseeing but a good location if you have business in this area or want a less expensive airport option.
