Would only suit a short stay

by David from Australia, 7 Jul 05

We recently stayed Baiyoke suite for 3 weeks, 2 adults 1 infant. Having read many reviews of this hotel thought we were pretty clued as what to expect. One of the biggest negatives were the comments are the slowness of the lifts, and I might add this is one of the biggest negatives this hotel has. The Baiyoke is 43 floors high, only 2 elevators service the odd floors and 2 for the even. There was always one elevator out of service within 2 of our 3 week stay and as the lobby is located on the 43rd floor, if you want to go down, any of the elevators travel right up to the top first before accepting traffic on the way down, very frustrating especially after a week.

Anyhow when we first arrived we noted how black our toddler became from crawling around on the carpet in the room. Room was tidy but the carpet was filthy, we requested steam clean as we were to stay for some 21 nights . To my surprise the manager had the room professionally steamed cleaned within the hour 6pm."Impressive!"

First night our bedside telephone rings 10.30pm waking the baby in the process, caller doesn't identify himself just hangs up, we take the phone off the hook but some mechanism rings within it to make you put it back on receiver. Again at 12.30pm phone rings awakening baby, I answer to a sorry sir wrong no. I complain to management to find who the heck keeps ringing to be assured that no more calls will be put through late. Again the following night my wife and child awoken around 11pm as I was out and the male caller says he fancied my wife and would like to meet , my wife rather frightened wanted me to immediately return and again was re-assured by the management that no calls were to be put through. This was to no available as the following night we got 2 more awakening calls and again the forth night. As by this time I've had enough and threatened the management we were going to check out if this continued. Each time we received the call I would phone the switch to find out who the heck was putting the calls through and were they asking to speak to us as the call could have been from home. They don't speak good English and all they seemed to do was repeat your last 3 words, so speaking to staff late is pretty much like talking into a tunnel, you don't get far. We ended up disconnecting the room phones from the wall for the entire duration of our stay, thank God there was no emergency from home.

Other problems was the toilet blocked up quite frequently meaning had to ask housekeeping to come and unblock.

There were some good points too. The buffet breakfast is very extensive and impressive for the first week, soon you realize their down points as it pretty much is the same thing every day, pancakes are always cold, and eggs borderline between runny - to just cooked, many of the dishes that spoused to be hot are cold because they are placed under the air conditioning, restaurant staff are very courteous and friendly.

So ... would we stay again at Baiyoke Suite, I would say the size of the double room suites are good despite that all the kitchenette sinks have been disconnected no running water, rooms are definitely tired, but who can really complain as the rate is excellent value but I think having scoured this Pratunam area thoroughly there are other hotels within close proximity that would give better value for the same rate. And based on what I have seen around here would not stay in Baiyoke suite again least not any more than 3 days and on a low floor.

Hope they clean/change the carpet

by Zulkifli Bin Miftah from Singapore, 11 Jun 05

The hotel is old. Everything seems to be discredit even the toilet. The carpet looks extremely dirty and old - seems have net been cleaned or vacuum for ages. The lift is extremely slow and seems to be under maintenance while we're there.

First time in Bangkok

by Kenneth Andersson from Sweden, 21 May 05

The Staff was very very nice, always smiling and very helpful. But we couldn’t understand why it should be so cold in the restaurant at the top floor, in the evening. It was like winter in Sweden.

I like this place so much, due to that this year alone I had stayed there twice. The place are cosy and the room is big, easy to go anywhere from here-either going for shopping or for food. The place are clean the b'fast are delicious.

Nice choice - why not again!

by Sebastian Ebert from Germany, 5 Aug 05

Nice, clean rooms. Breakfast on 42th floor offers a nice view over the city. The elevator can be a pain: sometimes you have to wait for 10 minutes to get in.

Hope you're patient waiting for elevators

by George from Australia, 20 Nov 05

This hotel very run down and tired, One can't complain about the price very cheap but be prepared for dirty smoke smelly room, dirty carpet and old bathrooms . The lifts are THE WORST I've COME ACROSS very slow to near useless as most of the time they appear broken

Honestly this place needs to be guttered well I guess it already is. The rooms rather large have kitchenettes with a non functional sink. They reminded us to be best described as an old New York Slum apartment, they really seem like very old flats. If you're single traveller its OK .

Better accommodation can be found walking just around the block at same price ,much cleaner.

Budget Place

by Anonymous User from India, 26 Dec 05

Rooms are spacious. But deco is an eyesore. Walls are painted brown and carpet+sofas are green. Bathroom tiles are brown and the bathtub is green.
Carpet is stained. You stop noticing these things if you are out all day and come back only to shower and crash.

Location is good. About half hour by drive to Siam Square and Th Khao San. Close to a lot of shopping malls.

Hotel is under renovation. So there is that paint smell in the common corridors. About half the floors are closed for renovation. Only two elevators service the remaining 20 odd floors. There are no separate service elevators. So be prepared for long wait times.

Breakfast spread was uninspiring.

You won't want to stay when you are leisure travel

by Billy from HKSAR, 9 Feb 06

I have stayed for 3 nights. A curried smell comes up every night and days. Breakfast was at top of the building but place was a little bit small and it was only fair. I and my wife usually go out when awoke and came back late, because you won't want to stay inside. I was smoking while checking in ( in those days, u can smoke every where in Thai) , the rep. did not ask me not to smoke, he just pointed out a non-smoking sign in front of him non-politely.

Room was big (all suite) and you can stay with your father and mother in-law, but you have to sleep at the sofa-bed.

Recommended only for teens as 6-8 persons can stay together, or hard work business staying. Not a good place for leisure travel.

But a good value in that location as price stays.

Big Room Small Bathroom

by Kasey Tan from Singapore, 8 Jun 06

1) Surrounding of the hotel looks old and very messy and dirty but got lots of cheap bargains.

2) Lobby newly renovated very impressive. Lobby's toilet forever smells so good and super clean.

3) Lift is small and old still upgrading till now. so long already. 2 lifts for 43 storeys of people even the staff are using them. Waiting for them is a pain.

4) Rooms very big but dull colours make you so down also...

5) Bathroom is totally opposite to the room. Very small. The bathtub was pathetically small.

6) Breakfast don't look attractive at all. taste also so so only.

7) Gotta praise on their service and patient for the receptionist.

Much better than before

by Anonymous User from New Zealand, 22 Jul 06

Our stay was much better than the last time we were there as they have done work on the lifts which were now effecient. They were by far the worst aspect of the hotel before.

Good value as the rooms are big and the buffet breakfast is excellent. We did not however get the welcome drink we were promised and had to wait half hour with a sick teenager while they cleaned the room. Its a bit of a bore that those little things that are promised, never seem to come to pass. What can you do when they say the service has been ''discontinued'' they seemed to have forgotten to inform the booking agency that its been ''discontinued''.

But all in all a pleasant stay.
