Wont go back to first hotel unless i'm on tight budget

by Anonymous User from Singapore, 14 Jul 08

I love the location of this hotel.. It's of a walkable distance to my favorite shopping area- pratunam. You can save on transport.

However, the hotel room is not clean. When I was combining two single beds together, I found a seed and a tissue paper under the bed.

The hotel lift is super small! It can barely fit 3 people with their luggage ... I got a bad experience with the people staying around my room and the whole level..

They were only wearing the towel walking around and giving us weird stares. Although it's got nothing to do with the hotel service but I would not go back to this hotel.

Not bad, not good

by Derek from Malaysia, 8 Jan 08

Location was excellent. Our main concern is about the cleanliness. The carpet especially under the bed was not properly clean. There are rubbish under the bed !!! Beside that, the lighting of the room and the hallway was really bad. Not bright enough. We are looking forward for another visit, hopefully things can be better.

The FIRST Hotel but definatel the LAST time I'll stay there.

by Patrick Tan from Singapore, 29 Nov 07

I checked into the First Hotel on 25 Nov 2007. The nightmare begins shortly after. I asked for a double bed and Tower Wing but was allocated the main wing with twin sharing. The beds were pathetic by hotel standards ... old and stained. The following day, managed to change to a double room on the 9th floor. Was initially happy until the bedbugs appeared... YES! I am referring to the tiny creatures that bites and suck you dry. Marched down to the front desk and told them about the little creatures that were sharing my room. I was given another room, this time on the 6th floor. Went up ... took a look and decided not to take the room.

Finally, decided to upgrade to the Business suite and pay an additional 1,000BHT. Some peace finally but have the edgy feeling. It was my first time staying at FIRST HOTEL and but it will definitely be my LAST time there also.

WONDERFUL HOTEL BUT RECEPTIONISTS UNFRIENDLY

by Diana from South Africa, 9 Nov 07

I stayed at the First Hotel In December and enjoyed it. The rooms are clean (nothing disappeared). The maid was competent and the service good. It's a pity that the first line the reception has some ladies working their that think they need not be friendly to visitors especially ladies. One in particular was sullen and rude unhelpful and not suited to the position. They speak little English and seem to think they need not. In the city of smiles where I found the most charming and delightful and was shown kindness by everyone I met, its a pity that the one receptionist in particular was so unfriendly and unhelpful.
The internet is non existent although they say they have one it was never working.

Now the Bell hop is a delightful fellow always ready with a smile and ready to help speaks English and without him we would have been lost. I hope they pay him well!!!

The Breakfast although plenty gets boring as its the same food each day. Its clean and plentiful.

The air conditioning is super in the rooms but leek into the door ways of most of the rooms and the carpets were spoilt by the wetness which made the otherwise great hotel look tatty.

The laundry done at the hotel is exceptionally expensive so try elsewhere.

The tea room downstairs have half priced goodies fresh and tasty after 6.30 in the evening.

All in all I would recommend the hotel and if a receptionist is unfriendly report it to the manager which is exactly what I am going to do on my next trip. Perhaps he can train the lady to be more friendly and less sulky.

Its within walking distance of many markets malls and the sky train is nearby. Just ask the bell hop.

Breakfast menu ought to be changed everyday

by Ong Kai Tat from Singapore, 14 Aug 07

The counter staff provided prompt and efficient service with a smile, very willing to attend to queries. Hotel is 5mins walk to Pantip Plaza (you can find all sorts of computer products there), and 10mins to Ratchathewi BTS station, very convenient.

I stayed in the Tower Wing with nice view of the Baiyoke Sky Hotel. Room was generally clean but air conditioning along the corridor could be improved. Breakfast menu should be changed everyday. Overall it was value for money, I would consider staying in First Hotel on my next visit.

Keep your mind alert!

by Annonymous User from Asia, 19 Apr 07

This is my second experience staying at First hotel. The first time was satisfactory and thus I decided to return again this time round. I had a room at the tower wing four years ago as well. This time back, I felt sort of disappointed. The overall look of the hotel has improved but the 'internal' especially rooms, food and service haven't.

Tower wing single room with king bed (1350B) is old and quite dirty. The bed makes squirky sounds the moment I sat on it. Rather disturbing. The bathroom was not cleaned properly. There were strands of hair left behind around the tub. Bed bug "running" across the bed was the first thing I saw after I woke up. Air con was noisy. It left my bones feeling chilly. Overall experience of this hotel is one simple word "tolerating". I had lunch in the hotel before I check out. No change was given back although I felt they should have. Even if they don't have the "small" change, I felt they could have acknowledged it to the guest instead of taking "tips" for granted, especially if in a hotel. Honestly, the only thing I enjoyed was the convenience of its location. I later switched to another hotel near chaktuchak called "Gold Orchid Hotel". It was much better. Free welcome cocktail was given to every arrived guest. Room was clean, neat and cozy. Breakfast was great and delicious with many varieties. The rates are the same as FH. It's rather new and thus the overall feeling and experience is good. I would consider the latter if I were to visit Bangkok again. Traveling by taxis isn't expensive anyway plus pratunam(the city) isn't far away.

Note: Most taxi drivers apparently do not carry change. (even if they do) So, do make sure before you get on a cab, you have small change and notes with you. For example, trip fare is 22b and if you happen to have only 50b or 100b, you will have to end up tipping the rest. Also, make sure the meter is on the moment you hop on or you would have to end up paying double or more for a trip.

Story of A Good Hotel and a Bad Tour Agency

by , 25 Feb 07

First hotel is far better than the one where I was put later by Stang Travel Co. Ltd, i.e. Park Hotel. However, I do not blame the hotel for me having been cheated by Stang Travel Co. Ltd. which promised me a high class accomodation for the money that they charged me. Beware of some Travel Agents that charge 16700 Bahts for a wonderful trip and living but put you up in relatively cheap hotels such as Park Hotel - Sukhumvit, Hotel Savasdee - Pattaya and in 4 days, just only give you a trip to Botanical Garden and a trip to Coral Island in a crowded boat charging you for everything (but lunch) on the way! That's Stang Travel Co. Ltd. for you. Stang Travel Co. Ltd is situated at 82/7 - 8, Rajchaparop Road, Phayathai Rajchatevu, Bangkok. It charged but did not deliver. Not even a final drop to the airport as promised. Case to write to Ministry of Tourism, Thailand.. Stang's unethical service should not spoil the name of Thailand Tourism. Thai Govt should take action against such Tour Agencies.

No room in Tower Wing, Give it a miss

by TM from Australia, 31 Jan 07

My original choice of the Tower Wing room was not available, so despite other reviews written on the main block rooms, I decided to give it a go. NEVER AGAIN.

Beds infested with bed bugs!!! Can't get rid of them with any amount of insect spray.
