Recommended for Bangkok stay
by Tadeusz from Australia, 1 Aug 06
We stayed in the Tower Wing and had no reason to complain; just the opposite. Convenient location to many markets, including IT City, old town etc.

Super loussy staff at front desk...will never go back in my life!
by Lee Siew Toeh from Singapore, 29 Nov 06
Feeling of being cheated and down-graded of what we reserved and pay for, we asked them to cancel the room. And walk in to some other hotel instead.
During the whole process, we were well-mannered, seek only explanation but the lady who served us at the front desk was extremely unfriendly and terrible with her manner and service, loud unfriendly voice, with her finger pointing right at our faces and other travelers who were checking in before us as well.
After we left BKK, we send an email to ask. And was told by the online agent, it was the hotel overselling there rooms. They did not receive any error or any reject from the FIRST HOTEL.

Keep your mind alert!
by Annonymous User from Asia, 19 Apr 07
Tower wing single room with king bed (1350B) is old and quite dirty. The bed makes squirky sounds the moment I sat on it. Rather disturbing. The bathroom was not cleaned properly. There were strands of hair left behind around the tub. Bed bug "running" across the bed was the first thing I saw after I woke up. Air con was noisy. It left my bones feeling chilly. Overall experience of this hotel is one simple word "tolerating". I had lunch in the hotel before I check out. No change was given back although I felt they should have. Even if they don't have the "small" change, I felt they could have acknowledged it to the guest instead of taking "tips" for granted, especially if in a hotel. Honestly, the only thing I enjoyed was the convenience of its location. I later switched to another hotel near chaktuchak called "Gold Orchid Hotel". It was much better. Free welcome cocktail was given to every arrived guest. Room was clean, neat and cozy. Breakfast was great and delicious with many varieties. The rates are the same as FH. It's rather new and thus the overall feeling and experience is good. I would consider the latter if I were to visit Bangkok again. Traveling by taxis isn't expensive anyway plus pratunam(the city) isn't far away.
Note: Most taxi drivers apparently do not carry change. (even if they do) So, do make sure before you get on a cab, you have small change and notes with you. For example, trip fare is 22b and if you happen to have only 50b or 100b, you will have to end up tipping the rest. Also, make sure the meter is on the moment you hop on or you would have to end up paying double or more for a trip.

Breakfast menu ought to be changed everyday
by Ong Kai Tat from Singapore, 14 Aug 07
I stayed in the Tower Wing with nice view of the Baiyoke Sky Hotel. Room was generally clean but air conditioning along the corridor could be improved. Breakfast menu should be changed everyday. Overall it was value for money, I would consider staying in First Hotel on my next visit.

WONDERFUL HOTEL BUT RECEPTIONISTS UNFRIENDLY
by Diana from South Africa, 9 Nov 07
The internet is non existent although they say they have one it was never working.
Now the Bell hop is a delightful fellow always ready with a smile and ready to help speaks English and without him we would have been lost. I hope they pay him well!!!
The Breakfast although plenty gets boring as its the same food each day. Its clean and plentiful.
The air conditioning is super in the rooms but leek into the door ways of most of the rooms and the carpets were spoilt by the wetness which made the otherwise great hotel look tatty.
The laundry done at the hotel is exceptionally expensive so try elsewhere.
The tea room downstairs have half priced goodies fresh and tasty after 6.30 in the evening.
All in all I would recommend the hotel and if a receptionist is unfriendly report it to the manager which is exactly what I am going to do on my next trip. Perhaps he can train the lady to be more friendly and less sulky.
Its within walking distance of many markets malls and the sky train is nearby. Just ask the bell hop.
