7/10 Pretty Good Hotel
by Mitre from Philippines, 9 Feb 06
Stayed here last October and had a great time. I was in a Topaz Studio in Tower 3. No such horror stories for me. Had a lovely room which was reasonably new and clean enough.
Have booked up to go again this Easter. Recommended. Good value for money.

Good value, would consider again
by John Letaw from San Diego, CA, 15 Feb 06
I got the Garden Suite, which has a bedroom and separate living room. Very comfortable; just large enough for my week's stay. I cooked a few meals in the small kitchen. It has 2-burner stove, microwave, no "real" oven. Large fridge. 1 pot, one skillet, and dishes. No can opener (bring your own!)
Staff is helpful and courteous. Neighborhood is a bit scroungy with low-rent tourists and bar girls underfoot. Nice location if that appeals to you, but I tired of it. Easy walk to Skytrain. Pool is a bit run-down and sometimes not too clean. Not gross, but should be maintained better. Above average gym in Tower 2 with various stepper, rowers, bikes, free weights, treadmills, lifting machines all in good shape.
If you're looking for a clean, comfortable bargain this is a good choice. If you want true 4-star, you'll need to look elsewhere. I stayed in Tower 2, room was modern. Tower 1 looked equally good, Tower 3 looked a bit shabby but I didn't go in (above a hofbrau-type restaurant.)

Little pricey, but still good.
by Mike R. from Canada, 1 Apr 06
I had one of the renovated rooms in the tower 3 complex, a coat of paint and a few touch ups made a huge difference. Some of the rooms were looking real shabby, for the room rate in past stays. The blinds they put on the windows block out very little light so if you like a dark room for sleeping in the daytime that may be a problem. Very clean, great service from all staff. Pool was spotless, and lots of lounge chairs.

Just another room
by Peter M. Kobe from Originally USA, 19 Jun 05
When I checked in the type of room was not ready. I asked for a large single bed and got two small twin beds, bed not comfortable, room smaller than expected. Moved into room with larger bed but I think they gave me one of their lower class rooms in the Tower 3 room 569. Has a huge support column in the middle of the room blocking walk areas to and from bed and desk area.
I stayed in a room in Tower 3 rm. 569 and I found this room to be of rather low standard for a Serviced apartment that sells itself to a higher standard. I had a desk area next to the TV that only has one chair and there is no table of any sort to sit at,,,if i have even one guest in the room here is no place for them to sit. The paint on walss is in very poor condition, the mini blinds on the windows are in sad shape and there is no blackout curtain to darken the room in daytime or early morning sleep times. The air-con blows on you in bed and you are either freezing or too hot.
The shower is just Ok with decent hot water but when using shower water leaks all over the floor. One of last nights a bellhop just card keyed his way into the room at 4 in the morning and when I wake with a startled question "what are you doing in my room? " he says, "check out today sir?"
Very bad mistake. Reservation system AtSiam worked good for me. I think if I stay here again I will not stay in the Tower 3 as seems old and run down.
In general if the other rooms in this tower are even close to the same as this. I repeat I would not stay in this Tower again.

Get what you pay for and a few hurdles to prepare for
by Landon from Vancouver, Canada, 8 Feb 06
I arranged a king room in their topaz suite for a 2 week stay and they put me into a twin claiming they didn't have the king...no offer of compensation. Had to wait 2 days and constantly on them to change me to my proper room type. Had to wait around in the hotel for hours and waste a lot of time waiting on staff to change my room.
Breakfast is a bit early so you probably should skip paying for it in your rate if you are a night owl. Otherwise the food was good. They do need to work on keeping out the ants/bugs from the food displays though.
Gym was good, but the room was never air-conditioned. They always had the windows opened so if you like to work out in 35 degree humid air then I'm sure this is an awesome facility and bonus for you. Steam room was nice but seems they charge for it (or not?) and anyways the main gym room is pretty steamy.
If you pay for a lower cost room you will almost always be stuck in tower 3 which is more tucked aside and run-down and seems to get worse service. You have to walk about 100m to tower 1 and 2 to do most things (check-in/out front desk service, tours, gym, gift shop, restaurant/breakfast buffet). If there is a rain storm the street floods and they stop servicing building 3 until the water goes away!
No laundry machines in hotel even for long-stay guests so you have to pay the high cost hotel rates which is about the same cost per item as buying new clothes in Bangkok. Even the neighborhood laundry shop is very high-priced (300 baht for one pair of jeans for example).
Recommend you only stay here if you come prepared for the pitfalls.

Some good, some bad
by Annonymous User from Seattle, USA, 26 Jul 07
I have stayed at Grand President tower 3 for 8 years on and off. Pricing has gone up during that time from about $27 US to $75. Once this hotel was a great deal (best in Bangkok), no more. Breakfast is better than before, but that's about it. Service is sub-par and there is always a problem checking in, room is not ready or they only have the absolute worst room available. Staff is clueless, not particularly friendly and completely full of BS, and I have been forced to ask very carefully about my room when I check in because they will always try to rub off their worst room on you.
