Okay - ask for a room with a balcony!

by Alison Maria Smith from United Kingdom, 21 Mar 08

I asked for a superior room but got shoved in a smallish one by the lift shaft. There was no balcony either - although other superior rooms did have one I found out. I was just so tired from my flight I collapsed. It wasn't until I'd unpacked and recovered I realized my room was pretty poor. These corner cupboards should be downgraded or left empty.

Overall the hotel was pretty central to the old part of the city and they did offer a free tuk tuk ride to the Khosan road. The pool was okay, but outside by the road. Geeone the nepalese tailor is good, the internet connection ok, but pricey as is the massage service there. Shop out for those two.

Thank you

by Annonymous User from Holland, 16 Jul 07

My daughter and I stopped at the hotel last week, July 07, we found the hotel to be quite old and the rooms a bit run down, but the staff were the best we have ever meet. They make the hotel. We were both taken ill outside Bangkok and had to go into hospital, we were very worried, we phoned the hotel in the morning as we did not know what to do. The Manager, Mr. Feaver came to the hospital to meet us and bring us back to the hotel, it was a round trip of 6 hours, he brought us food and only charged us only 1,000 Baht for the petrol, That is what I call service, he also made sure we got everything we wanted a brought us back to the airport free of charge. If you give an award pleas give it to him. The food was good and also the free Tuk Tuk, I will stop here again

Good Value

by Annonymous User, 27 Apr 07

This hotel is kept going by the great staff, from the time you check in to the time you check out, they look after you. The rooms are very old, but clean, they could do with an coat of paint and upgrade. Swimming pool and pool bar are nice with snacks the whole day, but watch out as their is tax and service change on the total amount thats 20%, but it is standard. We enjoyed our stay, it was worth the money.

Worth every penny

by S.M. Van Essen, 21 Apr 07

Hotel from outside looks really bad, but once inside it looks a lot better. The rooms are clean, tidy, have good air con, but they are old. The GM Mister Feber or Fever, sorry, was big help and saved us a lot of money with shopping and also when my mother fell got staff to take us to hospital and he waited with us. He speaks also Dutch which helped us. The travel desk is also good and very cheap, we booked three day trips and everyone went well, also airline tickets were confirmed.

Reception are slow, English is bad, but they are so nice to guest. More than friendly. Hotel has free transport to Khoasan road, outside bar, with cooling spray. Pool is also good ans mostly clean. The hotel is near the road, so ask for room at front of hotel. Breakfast is very good, as much as you like to eat, we were there for 8 days and one day it was cold. So not to bad.

Its worth the money

by martin Grenn from London, 23 Jan 07

My second visit to this hotel the last time, one year ago, what a change. The hotel now is much cleaner, rooms are being upgraded, shower tiles and bath, they only work during day so no noise. Room abit like my grannies, but clean. No laundry service, but staff will do it for you for low price. Booked a day out at their travel desk, but over slept, contacted the manager Mr Feaver and he not only got our whole trip replace to another day but also help me with blocking all my credit cards I had lost the night before, a bit thumbs up (pls come and work in England!!!). New hot water system in hotel makes a big change from before, cafe is every good, food is quite cheap. Breakfast also very good but one day was cold, but out of 12 days we stopped there it was ok. Outside of hotel dirty, but due to exhaust fumes, same in whole Bangkok.

Plus points: Good food, free Tuk Tuk service, manager real good, Staff very friendly.

Minus Points. Rooms a bit old, no laundry service, some time wait of about 10 minutes for free tuk tuk.

Pleasant surprise!

by Lars from Sweden, 5 Jan 07

This hotel bears its years with grace! We felt like in a luxury hotel, although it was the cheapest out of five different hotels around Thailand that we used. A stylish lobby. We were greeted with fresh orange juice when we approached the front desk for checking in. They seem to renovate little-by-little to preserve the charm while keeping it up-to-date in facilities.

A few disadvantages: rather heavy traffic nearby. In the room at the backside we actually were glad to have the neighboring house built just 20 cm outside our balcony! (Bangkok seems to lack city planning). The front room overlooked a courtyard with trees and the car entrance and the pool behind a wooden fence.

Very attentive staff talking good English. We got a very nice suggestion of a tour on our own with boats and skytrain.

Excellent breakfast buffet that was replenished even at the formal closing time.

The hotel has a free tuk-tuk service to the nearby night market and to one of the piers, but we had to wait about 15 minutes both times for departure.

I loved it, go there

by Jill Barnet from London, 16 Oct 06

A hotel near the UN buildings with a lot of free things, free Tuk Tuk service, free bicycle rental. Rooms old but very clean, staff very helpful, could do with a bit hotter water, but they said the were putting in new system.

Great pool and pool party with free drinks and food, (never had that before). Staff not the fastest in the world, but the sweetest and so helpful.

by amichai zilberman from israel, 2 Sep 06

The rooms are clean and nice (relatively to Thailand), people nice and willing!!! The price (1,000 BHT per night) worth it!!! The location is about 2-3 km from khaosan road, there is a tuktuk free from the hotel to the khaosan road!!!
