We'll stay again if we visit bangkok

by Erwin Armanto from Indonesia, 9 Aug 07

The room is quite big and comfort. We got problems with plumbing in bathroom, but the hotel staff response and fix it quickly. The location is very strategic, walking distance to Shopping area.

Great location

by Willem van Breedhoven from Amsterdam, 29 Jun 07

Single Room was nice, clean and spacious. Helpful staff. Aircon could be more silent. Good value for money and excellent location in the city center. Recommendable for short stay/stopover in Bangkok.

It's was a pleasant stay...

by Tricia Lim from Malaysia, 25 Jun 07

Location is good. We had the 2 bedroom apartment. Like mentioned in all other reviews, the apartment is old and need refurbishment. Room is very basic. Receptionist and housekeeping workers were helpful. Spa Buri was good. Overall, the stay was pleasant.

Excellent service in a no frills hotel. Perfect.

by Shidah from Singapore, 24 Jun 07

We booked the family suite and got one directly above their restaurant. Initially the air conditioning in one of the rooms was spoil but calling the receptionist got the problem fixed in no time.

When one of my friends accidentally clogged the bathtub (she broke the stopper so the water couldn't be drained), they called the plumber to get it fixed at no extra cost.

The staff are friendly and willing to offer suggestions even if their English isn't too good. We requested for an adapter and extra pillows, it came quick and fuss free. The bell captain Mr Jaran especially went out of his way to make our stay a memorable one.

The suite however is basic (bathroom is clean, hot water ran perfectly, and the bed bouncy), a bit old and had a musty smell. But then again, there was nothing a bit of air freshener couldn't do to help.

Given the low price, convenient location (close to the BTS Skytrain, if you take a cab however it is a good idea to print out the hotel's address in Thai), and excellent service, it is a great place to stay in. We will definitely stay again at the Residence on our next trip to Bangkok!

Not recommended!

by Robert from Norway, 7 Jun 07

I have used this hotel since 2002 to stay whenever I was in Bangkok for my work. Unfortunately the hotel became worse and worse as time passed.

The hotel looks quite nice from the outside ... nice reception ... plants and flowers.....etc.... But the rooms are bad. They should have renovated them years ago. The biggest problem is the fact that they advertise with nice photos and good stories. According to their website they have 2 restaurants and a gym. Unfortunately one restaurant has been closed since 2001 (only the Crescendo is open). The gym has been closed for renovation for years now.

Also the staff is unfriendly and unhelpful. On several occasions they tried to make money by being less than honest. One time, I asked for a taxi-meter at the reception. Once in the taxi, I discovered that the hotel-staff charged the taxi-driver 100 Baht with the promise that I would pay him 500 Baht (for a taxi drive of about 50 Baht). Needless to say I refused the taxi.

One time I wanted to order plane tickets in the hotel for a flight the next day. After a phone call I with their travel-agent I was told that all planes were full for the next day except one flight early in the morning. They could sell me a ticket for that flight for the regular price. Unfortunately for them I understand Thai. The phone call wasn't about planes that were full. One phone call by me to Bangkok Airways made clear that there were many flights available the next day and the early flight had a huge discount. So the staff at the hotel tried to sell a discount-ticket to me by lying about the available flights.

Opposite the road, there's the First Hotel. If you want to stay in that area, not willing to spend too much money, you better go to that hotel. If you want to spend a little more, you can go to the Arnoma Hotel. This hotel is very nice and situated right next to all the big shops in the area (Big C, Isetan, Central World, Paragon, etc)

Decent accomodation, good value for money

by Bangkok as a 2nd home from Malaysia, 9 May 07

The good thing is that The Residence is pretty well hidden hence it's secluded from the hustle & bustle of the city. The 2 bedroom suite that we stayed in was rather rundown but what mattered the most was that we had comfortable beds and a clean bathroom. Surprisingly, Spa Buri was excellent!

Budget ; OK

by Tham Sai Keun from Selangor, Malaysia, 23 Apr 07

GOOD cuz ...

- smack in the middle of the main shopping area, yet not on the main road (so it's hard to find but not much dirt and noise from the busy bustly roads)
- cheap, simple and comfy if you don't expect luxury
- decent breakfast
- very warm staff and though they don't converse in English heavily, they try their best and it really helps
- Spa Buri within the hotel itself, easy quick way to get a massage or two under the same roof
- not one but two 7-ELEVEN's right outside at the main road, along with a Burger Kings and Pizza place opening up to midnight for a late snack
- walking distance to Pantip Plaza, Platinum and Pratunam shopping centres
- the hotel looks small but i think it's cosy and neat

BAD cuz ...
- warm water not sufficient or not warm enough
- air-conditioning may be noisy at night as each unit is adjacent to each other with a good chance that their air-con vent unit is facing ur room window
- only good for a place to bunk and sleep, otherwise TV doesn't have good channels, not much room space, no view at all (all you see if concrete).
- not well known, so some cab drivers may find a hard time locating it, you need to get off the main road on a small lane to reach the hotel
- furniture are pretty old, a little run down but works fine

OVERALL ... if you wanna visit Bangkok on a budget and won't stay in ur room much besides sleeping/napping and the breakfast, this is the place for you.

Value for Money

by NSW from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, 22 Apr 07

The taxi driver was having hard time to locate the hotel when we first arrive because it is not located in main road. Not a problem anymore after we requested the hotel receptionist to write the hotel name and address in Thai.

We took a 4 pax suite, a little disappointed when found out only have 1 bathroom. Furniture is a little bit old and need renovation.

Overall the location is good, walking distance to shopping malls and BTS station (10 to 15 minutes).
