Value 4 $$$ and Great Location for shopping

by alex from malaysia, 23 Feb 07

This place is all about location & value for money. I booked the 2-room suite for my family and although the floors and furniture was a tad bit run down, not to mention noise of the air-con was quite annoying during my much needed sleep, overall.. I have to say it was money worth spent.

Its only minutes away from the Pratunam area (major clothing shopping heaven) and about 15 minutes walk from Central World (a huge shopping mall) and Siam Paragon (another huge shopping mall with the best food court area I have seen). If you do book a room here, you'd have to try the bbq chicken and pork that the woman is selling just outside the hotel.

The night staff wasn't too friendly and couldn't really understand much of what I was asking them, but some of the staff was great help. As i checked in around midnight, I found the tv wasn't working, called for help, and he helped carry another TV set from an unoccupied room. It was unexpected as I thought he would have said "we can only fix it tomorrow".

The breakfast was pretty much your average American breakfast, although i was hoping for bacon, but i wasn't going to cry over something minor.

The only major difficulty you would have is getting taxi drivers to get you to this hotel. Trying to tell them the hotel is next to Indonesia Embassy doesn't really help, instead try saying its near Grand Diamond hotel or opposite the First Hotel. The hotel is in an alley next to 7-eleven. Look for a sign "Spa Buri" to turn into the hotel.

Not a bad place if you don't plan to stay in the room much

by Anonymous user, 25 Feb 07

We needed a room for 4 people so their family room was pretty good. However, the TV was broken and had only Thai channels on; we stayed for 4 nights and the tv wasn't fixed. It didn't matter much b/c we were out most of the time but it would have been nice to hear what's going on in the world in some other language than Thai!

Breakfast was pretty good, buffet American and Thai food. Location was convenient, there is a train nearby but we never took it b/c cabs are much cheaper with 4 people.

Never Again here...

by Rakesh Gupta from Chennai, India, 25 Feb 07

This place has got a good location. That is all. The hotel is not meant for decent holidaying. Dinghy place with cold staff. Curt and unwelcome receptionist. Weird intrusive apology of a balcony/window which is also a bit eerie in the night. People keep walking across the window. Breakfast's okay. No help, no assistance otherwise. Poor value. Avoidable. Not recommended.

Not a bad choice finally

by Chiao-Lin, Bernardon from Taipei, Taiwan, 7 Mar 07

I had hard time to find the hotel with the taxi driver, but finally we made it. The location is very good, maybe two 7/11 near by and around 10 mins walk to the Isetan department store and Central point plaza, and all the other shopping plaza on the way.

We booked the service apartment (2 bedrooms suite). The suite is very big, with kitchen, bathroom, living and dinning rooms. The room is clean (didn't see even an ant) but everything is kind of run down but working. I think a little bit of work of fixation or good maintainers will give a plus to the room. And I think the room really need to have some works done asap.

The little buffet breakfast is nice, just downstairs in a small but cozy restaurant. The reception is helpful and accommodated (we request to have the check-out delay till 2pm because our flight).

We stayed only one night there, for the location, convenience, and the price, it's not a bad choice.

Very budget

by Gillian Saks from Cape Town, South Africa, 20 Mar 07

If one is planning to spend very little time at the hotel it will do fine ... But do not book at this hotel if you want to spend any leisure time off the busy streets of Bangkok in your room. The rooms are dark and the bathrooms are very tired!

Pricewise it is VERY cheap and ''you get what you pay for"! ALTHOUGH THE STAFF SPOKE LITTLE ENGLISH THEY WERE ALWAYS HELPFUL AND FRIENDLY. Breakfast was sufficient. IT WAS CLEAN People don't know where it is so it can be frustrating with transport. IT IS QUIET SO ONE IS ABLE TO SLEEP WELL.

Value for Money

by NSW from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, 22 Apr 07

The taxi driver was having hard time to locate the hotel when we first arrive because it is not located in main road. Not a problem anymore after we requested the hotel receptionist to write the hotel name and address in Thai.

We took a 4 pax suite, a little disappointed when found out only have 1 bathroom. Furniture is a little bit old and need renovation.

Overall the location is good, walking distance to shopping malls and BTS station (10 to 15 minutes).

Budget ; OK

by Tham Sai Keun from Selangor, Malaysia, 23 Apr 07

GOOD cuz ...

- smack in the middle of the main shopping area, yet not on the main road (so it's hard to find but not much dirt and noise from the busy bustly roads)
- cheap, simple and comfy if you don't expect luxury
- decent breakfast
- very warm staff and though they don't converse in English heavily, they try their best and it really helps
- Spa Buri within the hotel itself, easy quick way to get a massage or two under the same roof
- not one but two 7-ELEVEN's right outside at the main road, along with a Burger Kings and Pizza place opening up to midnight for a late snack
- walking distance to Pantip Plaza, Platinum and Pratunam shopping centres
- the hotel looks small but i think it's cosy and neat

BAD cuz ...
- warm water not sufficient or not warm enough
- air-conditioning may be noisy at night as each unit is adjacent to each other with a good chance that their air-con vent unit is facing ur room window
- only good for a place to bunk and sleep, otherwise TV doesn't have good channels, not much room space, no view at all (all you see if concrete).
- not well known, so some cab drivers may find a hard time locating it, you need to get off the main road on a small lane to reach the hotel
- furniture are pretty old, a little run down but works fine

OVERALL ... if you wanna visit Bangkok on a budget and won't stay in ur room much besides sleeping/napping and the breakfast, this is the place for you.

Decent accomodation, good value for money

by Bangkok as a 2nd home from Malaysia, 9 May 07

The good thing is that The Residence is pretty well hidden hence it's secluded from the hustle & bustle of the city. The 2 bedroom suite that we stayed in was rather rundown but what mattered the most was that we had comfortable beds and a clean bathroom. Surprisingly, Spa Buri was excellent!
