Absoluitely first class for the money

by Alison Smith from York, England, 21 Mar 08

Ideal plush, but cheapish hotel very near - or even in - the centre of the action in the older parts of the city. Nothing much lets it down except the tortuous route to get to the 'enclosed' swimming pool on the third (but really second) floor. As with nearly every hotel I have visited in Thailand the breakfast is only warm and never hot!

Good, basic hotel

by Miranda Arkins from Brisbane, Australia, 18 Jan 08

This is the second time I have stayed here. The rooms are clean, staff are helpful, it's in a good location and it's not too badly priced. We were upgraded to a deluxe room, but I didn't think there was much of a difference between it and the standard room I've had before. The buffet breakfast was probably the most basic I've had in any of the hotels.

Been here before and would return

by Cath from new zealand, 19 Sep 07

Asked to be moved to a newer decorated room that also was non smoking this hotel is in a great location.

There is a lot of energy around. You can walk to do a lot of sightseeing. Its handy to catch canal boats and river boats.

We will come back!

by Margret und Wolfgang from Hamburg, Germany, 21 Mar 07

Nicely situated in the old town and near the river. Staff is friendly, room comfortable, but the beds are quite used and should be renewed, bath could be renovated. Breakfast buffet quite good, closes a bit early at 9:30 already - and for people who eat vegetarian food it is a real pity to see all the nice vegetable dishes all mixed with meat or fish - pork, beef, chicken, fish... why not serve meat and fish separately??!!! Although this is a general problem all over Thailand. For a late check-out (7:30 pm) we had to pay half of the room charge!!! And the room was automatically locked when we returned from our last walk at 6 pm - we had to wait some precious time before the room opened - and no reduction of the high charge! As to this point, we should wish more helpfulness!

Good value for money

by Sjoerd + Cindy from Netherlands, 20 Oct 06

Very good value for money. The location is great because it's just a street behind Khao San Road. Breakfast could be better, but the food in the restaurant was OK.

Friendly staff.

Rooms are fine, but the bathroom was very small. If you are tall than it is impossible to stand normally and in the shower you have to bend your head to become wet.

Overall I must say that the value for money is very good and location is great.

Best location, fair price

by Werner from Erlangen, Germany, 31 Aug 06

Good, if you need a triple, because the rooms are really huge. Perfect, if you get a new renovated one. There seemed to be a bug-problem, because in August 06 there were renovating a lot of rooms and the rentokil-company was at work, so they working on it. Been there for last 6 years and had never a problem. The hotel is slowly moving upward. Helpful staff, relaxed late check out handling. Good breakfast, but only till 9.30.

The pool is OK, but it would help, if tourists would shower before using it.

We would stay there again

by Ninna Petersen from Denmark, 22 Aug 06

Fine hotel, but some of the rooms were a bit tired and needed a renovation. Good breakfast buffet and the service was good. Great location if you are a young traveller, cause the location beside Khao San Road. Try to get a room away from the street, because in the evening there is a lot of noise and bands playing loud. But overall a good hotel for value.

Good location and comfortable

by Cathy Korn from UK, 31 Jul 06

Good location for easy sightseeing and returns to the hotel. Pleasant restaurant, used once - good food, inexpensive. Didn't use pool - it looked a bit basic and not a pretty location but it serves a purpose.

Rooms were comfortable, cleaning staff especially friendly and helpful, and no noise at all which was a real bonus. A bit of a haven amid the hubub! Overall price, rooms and facilities and location means I would definitely recommend it.

I would recommend this hotel if you look for a good and central hotel.

by Cem from Dubai, UAE, 14 Jun 06

The hotel is very central located, just parallel to the famous Khao San Street. So shopping, nightlife and sightseeing is very easy to make. The Viengtai is probably the best hotel in the whole area, but for western standards just average. I have nothing to complain, the rooms were clean, service was OK and i even got a 3 hrs late check-out.
