Totally disappointed!

by Anonymous user, 7 Aug 05

The room is very unwelcoming - GREEN carpet and curtain. Over-advertised. If you look at their official flyer, what you will get will be TOTALLY different. Staff (whom we met) are unhelpful plus have bad manner, make fun of & gossip guests. (Sorry we happened to understand Thai!). We had to wait more almost 2 hours to get in the room after checking-in (the hotel has hundreds of room!). So the only reason we can think of is that we booked through a travel agency. Hotel staff always discriminates between guests who book through travel agencies and those who book by themselves. (Believe it or not!)

Shouldn't have had the brand "Central" in front of the hotel name. Very disappointed! The only good thing is location but that really can't be the hotel's credit. The building was already there when they bought it at the first place!

If you have been to any other Central hotels & resorts, don't expect this one to be similar, or even close. This is a VERY LOW CLASS hotel that shouldn't have had a 4-star rating (on this website). If you expect something better than a 500-room guest house, go to other hotels.

We stayed longer

by Jenni from England, 23 May 05

As it's only recently opened, everything was still in very good condition. The pool is exceptionally large for a hotel, though not very warm due to it's position. Staff tried to be helpful when asked, but few spoke good English and our Thai was rubbish.

The location is very good, right on the doorstep of the night bazaar and a short walk to the moat and river.
Overall an enjoyable stay and a good breakfast!

We negotiated a good monthly rate direct with the hotel and stayed for nearly five weeks!

Won't return

by Anonymous user, 21 May 05

Room was too hot and stuffy. Air conditioner inadequate. Window could not be opened. Lighting too dim.

Bathroom badly designed and was poorly finished in its construction. Tiling glue still visable on floor and tiles..bad workmanship. Linen was clean.

We don't mind staying there again even if we have to bear the little inconvience

by SANTHI D/O RAMU from SINGAPORE, 14 Sep 05

The lift is too slow and it is really frustrating. The staff do not understand simple English and we have to repeat a couple of times.

We changed room three times while we were there as we were given a non smoking room when I have specifically requested for a smoking room and then when we change to another room, we were given a twin bed which we have specifically asked for a queen or king size bed which we finally got it after the second day.....

Good value - reasonably comfortable

by Anonymous User from Los Angeles, CA, 10 May 07

The quality of the hotel was good considering the 1650B/night rate. As others note, the location--just steps from the night bazaar--is excellent

The front desk upgraded me from the deluxe room to a business class room due to availability. The room was nice except it reeked of cigarette smoke (no non-smoking rooms were available). The bathroom was large with both bath and shower, but the workmanship was subpar with poor tile job and hacked plumbing. This is typical of Chieng Mai hotels in this price range.

The pool looked quite attractive, but I didn't have time to swim.

The hotel is huge and my guess is the hotel construction, staffing, and maintenance is just sufficient to keep things running and eke out a marginal profit, given the abundance of cheap rooms in Chieng Mai. The lobby and rooms have some trappings of elegance, but it is clear they cannot afford to provide much more than the bare necessities at these rates.

Great location, frustrating lifts, great value

by Adam from New Zealand, 16 Jun 05

This is a place in a great location and the Internet rate we got was a great deal. Rooms in large hotels in Thailand are a little 'boring' and the atmosphere often rather dull and this was no exception. The details are not there you'd see in Europe or Australasia, BUT, for the price, could not expect more.

Breakfast was great and included, and the location next to nigh bazaar fantastic. The only genuine problem with the place was the lifts.......25 stories and 4 slow lifts is not enough, sounds a small point but when you have to check out and get a flight.......

I'd use the hotel again no problem.

Good experience

by Lizarazo Hernando from Bogota, Colombia, 2 Jul 05

An overall good experience, Thai service standards and kindness, excellent breakfast, Rooms design may be better finished but that's ok if you put it all together. Convenient location and facilities.

Great place!

by Keith Endricks from Key West, FL, 29 Aug 05

You get what you pay for. I've stayed in the Suites and the standard and in between. If you're on a tight budget the standard rooms are worth the price. Spend a little more and the rooms are very nice indeed.

The hotel staff has treated me like royalty. Excellent free buffet. And I have had some excellent dinners there and some not so great, depending on the chef.

Good entertainment in the lobby and the Night Bazzar is around the corner. Walk up the street to plenty of night life and beautiful women. There is travel agent in lobby can get you excellent deals on the many tourist attractions.

I love the place and will return many more times.

Great value for money - we will go back!

by Elizabeth Tosti from Sydney, Australia, 27 Mar 06

We stayed in the Dynasty Club room and found this to be excellent value for money. The room was quiet, clean and comfortable. The hotel is in a great position and has a lovely swimming pool and fantastic fitness centre. Staff were friendly and helpful. We would definitely stay at this hotel again.

Not sure I would Return

by Anonymous from Orlando, FL, 21 Apr 06

The room was definitely not what I was expecting. From the photos it looked fairly new, when in reality, it looks rather worn. The AC went off once you left your room and took a while for it to cool down once you came back. The room itself was rather huge, but the bathroom was small, the shower stall allows water to leak into the bathroom floor (drain in floor prevented this from becoming a mess).

Breakfast was good, but I've had better in Thailand and Laos. I found it strange that the lobby area is actually on the 2nd floor of the hotel, so you either have to take stairs or the lift up to register from the entrance. I had mold in my bathroom ceiling and the tiling did look old and worn. Great location though.
