Great!

by Anonymous User from New Jersey, 11 Apr 08

We had a great time at La Luna! The staff was really helpful, the pool was beautiful, and the rooms were really clean with tons of character. It's a little outside the downtown area, but easy to get to via taxi. We really enjoyed our time there.

Re booked already!!

by Donald McMullen from Vancouver, Canada, 31 Jul 06

Really nice large pool. The grounds were simply beautiful. No road noise at all. Only thing that would have been welcome was some sort of additional rack for wet bathing suits in bathroom. We have already re booked for another stay.

Tropical paradise - can't wait to go back!

by Yael from Israel, 18 Oct 06

From the moment we viewed the lanna-style open air lobby, we knew we were in a tropical paradise. The hotel is comprised of groups of bungalows with private and gorgeous ensuites. They also have refrigerators, TV, the usual. The paths to these bungalows lead you through lush, tropical gardens. The pool is clean and lovely. Breakfast was great (the usual coffee/tea, toast, eggs, sausages, ham, etc.). The staff was extremely helpful with everything we needed. We arranged a tour through the hotel; the staff even made local phone calls for us to confirm our car reservation; etc. -- just really nice and helpful people. The only drawback is that the location is a bit far from the center of town, so we couldn't walk to the night bazaar and needed to take a taxi/tuk tuk instead. I give this place my wholehearted thumbs-up.

Great rooms and setting, let down by restaurant.

by Anonymous User from N. England, 27 Dec 06

Really difficult to find, and rather a long way from the centre of Chiang Rai, but an oasis of calm, lovely rooms around a pool. We thought it was excellent value, could have been rated 4 star were it not for the restaurant, which really let it down. This was very basic, the staff were casual/unhelpful and the food very ordinary. A huge TV blared out throughout the meal. Breakfast was also poor. Pity.

Lovely resort, recommend

by mrs e m borrowman from uk, 26 Jan 07

Lovely clean stylish bungalows in a beautiful garden with a pool and good access by tuk tuk or taxi to the nearby town. Particularly pleased that 3 of us staying made it very economical as the rooms are spacious and will easily take another bed for just a few pounds more a night.

We had our hair washed and blow dried by the hairdresser just outside the resort and this was fun, and unbelievably cheap.

Only let down was the breakfast, fried eggs in a heater, congealing, is not as nice as freshly cooked omelette's or eggs which are available in other hotels.

Otherwise, a lovely place, relaxing and beautiful, with helpful, friendly staff.

Very good city hotel

by Carla Hoegen from Netherlands, 28 Jan 07

All bungalows in a row, very nice large rooms with comfortable chairs, only a 20 minute walk from the night market, very good breakfast. But if you ask for a non-smoking room they simply take away the ashtray. On request we got another room which didn't smell so bad.

Great hotel but poor restaurant.

by Richard Walker from Worcester UK., 13 Mar 07

Excellent accommodation in beautifully maintained gardens with good swimming pool. Unfortunately the restaurant is the only aspect which detracts from this very good hotel. Wondered whether restaurant was a franchise. Staff
very unhelpful, buffet was never replaced, we observed numerous complaints by fellow guests. Great pity.

Very pleasant stay - would gladly stay there again

by Anonymous User from U.S., 25 Mar 07

The landscaping is lush and beautiful. The bungalow-style rooms are also very nice. We upgraded to the nicer rooms and received free mini-bar items (an unexpected plus). The laundry and massage services are surprisingly cheap for a hotel. Free internet in the lobby was also a nice feature (didn't reach our room, but no big deal). Previous reviewers complained about the breakfast, but we were pretty happy with it (real orange juice, tasty fried rice with shrimp). Staff went out of their way to help us. The many positives outweigh the few negatives (no exercise facilities other than the pool and slightly remote location - costs 50-60 baht to get to the downtown market if you don't want a long walk).

There are much better choices in Chaing Rai

by Scott C. Welsh from Taipei, Taiwan, 18 Jun 07

This hotel mis advertises on many web sites. The management should be ashamed of themselves. While the staff was ok and the grounds well kept and beautiful, the price they charge and the problems make this a horrible place to stay. A few of the problems are explained below- sorry for the long review, but this place deserves it.

1. The standard and superior rooms are the exact same as far as size, furnishings, color and other amenities. The only thing different is the price and the $1.50 worth of free sodas they give you if you book a superior room. The free sodas are the "mini-bar" they list under the amenities. This is at the admission of the staff, not just my opinion. The superior rooms are a scam to make more money out of the already overpriced rooms.

2. There are no in-room safes in any of the rooms and they charge to use a safe at the reception desk. It doesn't matter that they advertise that there are in-room safes they will still charge extra if you want to protect your belonging. The standard in Thailand is to provide a secure location for your valuables as part of the room price- whether in room or at the reception desk. By the way it is very important to keep your valuables locked up in Thailand- just as it is in most countries.

3. The location is not inconvenient and it is a 20min. walk to the Chaing Rai city area. Upon check-in we were told transportation is always available. In our three days at the hotel not once were we able to catch a ride into town at any price. Its hot in Chaing Rai and the road the hotel is located on is very dusty due to a great deal of construction along the way. There are not good sidewalks and it is not lit well at night.

4. The restaurant, referred to as a mini-restaurant, is not small. Its the menu that is mini, and it is inadequate. The food is horrible, standard street fair. You can walk (20min) and get much better quality for 1/3 the price. Room service is the same food. In years of traveling in Thailand- it was the worst hotel or cheap guest house restaurant I have ever eaten in.

5. Satellite TV. There are no English language news channels available on the premises. The only Foreign language TV was in English and the three channels played re-runs of American sit-coms and bad older B rate movies. The reception quality was poor. In addition the Bangkok Post- Thailand' English news paper is not available. You will have to walk 20 minutes to get your news.

6. Internet service was quite slow and overpriced. They charge the same for 5 min. or an hour. So a quick check of your email will cost you an hours worth.
