Grunge rock its not!

by Julia and lesley from Bristol, uk, 11 Mar 06

It really was nirvana! If you are looking to get away from it all Nirvana is the place for you. The resort and bungalows were perfect, spacious and well designed and the resort is private and secluded. We had a luxurious bungalow with panoramic views overlooking Bang Bao village and the bay. The other facilities were good too including a small but adequate salt-water pool, a sala to watch the sunsets and a decent restaurant when we didn't fancy the short walk into Bang Bao village.

All the staff were really helpful and they spoke English well. There is no real beach here but that didn't seem to matter, as there are plenty of beaches a short ride away. Bang Bao village has quite a few facilities too including a great bakery. Take a torch for getting back to the resort after dark. This place deserves a visit.

We would like to return next year.

by Joseph Roelofs from Netherlands, 1 Apr 06

During our stay the noisy generator was permanently removed, a great advantage. We had a very pleasant time in the resort. The rooms are great, the furniture very special. We enjoyed the nice rock pool. The restaurant was OK.

Lice in beds from dirty bedlinen

by Anonymous user from Manchester, UK, 25 Feb 06

My wife Andrea and I stayed at the Nirvana for 6 nights in January 2006. We have travelled to Thailand many times before and also to Cambodia, Vietnam, Laos, Borneo and Malaysia, indeed throughout the Far East for the last fifteen years. We love Thailand and her people. We have stayed in all types of hotels from budget to deluxe. Our first impression of the Nirvana was very positive, a most tranquil location and an impressive design. It's location next to Bangbao village was just what we wanted and although some guests might find it too isolated and quiet it was just what we wanted.

There were a few niggling problems with the room, such as no hot water in the shower, but they were dealt with fairly quickly. We did notice an odd smell in the room and I thought the duvet smelt rather musty and stale. We did however forget about these trivias and settled down to enjoy our holiday. By the third day I noticed I had a body rash but I put it down to either a heat rash or the bites of sea-lice (quite harmless )acquired whilst swimming.

On our return to Bangkok, whilst showering I was horrified to discover that I had body lice! By shaving off body hair and the use of suitable shampoo I was able to get rid of them fairly quickly. It was obvious to us both that I had acquired them from the dirty bedding at the Nirvana. We have stayed in all kinds and classes of accommodation throughout the Far East but never encountered anything like this before. I think I am less annoyed about acquiring the lice than at the the thought of how much we paid for the privilege!

The Nirvana is an expensive hotel and does not demonstrate the professionalism, hygiene and cleanliness that one should expect from any hotel, of any class. I would strongly recommend that you avoid this hotel. There are plenty of other hotels on Koh Chang which are not only cheaper but undoubtedly cleaner.

I will never go back!

by Anonymous user, 10 Apr 06

Don't like it at all. The food at the restaurant was awful. Nothing much going on at the resort. The room was very beautiful though. I requested a sea view bungalow but there was no beach.

DISAPPOINTED

by SANDRA BANTWELL from FRANCE, 18 Feb 06

It is a mixed bag. We are just back from Nirvana Resort in Ko Chang. The resort itself is nice, but quiet and remote ! If you are looking for activities and fun, don't go there. It is rather a place for individuals and people looking for peace. First, the hotel is located in Ban Dao Bay south of Koh Chang facing fishermen village, 1 Km walk from main road, so in order to get a taxi, you have to reach this road first dark at night of course (bring your torch lamp !), otherwise rent a motorbike (not recommended at all considering the roads there!).

Also, there IS NO BEACH ! Only an artificial strand of sand dirty in the morning (high tides with rubbish from fishermen village). Also the resort does not organize activities or excursions, you have to contact a travel agency in the village...

Next, service is a bit disorganized and not regular. The room service is good but in studio bungalow a larger terrace table would be necessary to eat your breakfast properly !

Otherwise our bungalow (studio) was facing the sea, near the pool, comfortable, exotic furniture, but we had a problem with our shower (no pressure at all with hot water) which was not solved during our stay despite the maintenance tried to fix it.

Their restaurant is good and prices the same as in Ban Dao village.
Overall, I don't think I'll go back there, too isolated and no beach which is an essential criteria for me.

Paradise at Koh Chang

by Risto Kuparinen from Helsinki, Finland, 25 Mar 07

The peace and the nature were outstanding. Our two bedroom flat was very convenient and luxurious. Even the beach is not good for swimming, their rock pool is a brilliant substitute. The best of all regarding the staff was the manager; he helped us much more than can be expected. Other staff was also helpful and professional.

I recommend!
