Not worth it overall ... once bitten never again

by Anonymous from San Francisco, CA, 17 Jan 07

Cheap holiday to go in and quick to be out from, as Al's resort is close to be a ripoff absolutely not representative of the real traditional Koh Samui much higher standards we should all look for:

Rooms are not maintained properly after only 2 years already falling apart.
Expected services are nearly non existent.

Location not the best and unique one without any shade from the trees all put down, with awful buildings including a small swimming pool shared between Villas and Gardens sides.

The Management is definitely poor catching short time backpackers whom can not afford it too long ...

Food quality is less than average only pretending.

Awful Service

by Anonymous User from Palm Beach, Australia, 21 May 06

Al's resort was disappointing for what we were expecting. We stayed in the nicer rooms which are definitely worth the money and very comfortable. The pool is nice and location is perfect and in the best spot on Chaweng beach.

However the service here was terrible. The people at the front desk were extremely unhelpful and rude. We requested to be moved to another room due to excess noise outside our room in the evenings and they refused, despite having plenty of empty rooms.

I would not stay here again. We also stayed at the Iyara Resort Plaza and this was much better in terms of services and facilities.

Happy to go back but with some reservations

by Anonymous User, 1 Jun 06

A regular visitor of Thailand included Koh Samui but describing Al's resort as it is a small cheap construction less than one year old. Hotel is in a very good location for those whom enjoy Chaweng beach and its waves. But indeed no sea view only for rooms 100 up to 105 if going out from the rooms you can see it turning your heads aside, no Spa as such (nothing to compare with Bali ). Only an Open massage room facing the beach with pleasant Thai massage ladies.

The staff is sometimes smiling, the food and the cleanness are under standards. So many other places to go to that the The Al's resort Management has to correct those services expected totally missing to stay as quoted a 3 stars hotel.

Don't go

by bar from Israel, 16 Sep 06

The attitude of the reception desk was shocking when we ordered the room we asked for non smoking room ,the room that we received was really stinking from cigarette's. The lady at the reception didn't like our request and was very rude.

Not considering going back at all!

by Melyssa St from PENANG, Malaysia, 18 Aug 08

The house keeping staffs were really noisy!! 7am early in the morning, they would talk & laugh very loudly and practically shouting from one room to the next few rooms when most people were still sleeping!! We find this terribly rude!

Should also improve on the quality of the door as from inside the room, we could even hear people talking very clearly when walking pass the room.

Even though check-out time is 12 noon, most hotels would allow clients extend up to 1pm. At 11.45am, housekeeping already started knocking on the door and asked us to check-out fast, by 12noon, they already came 3 times!! We requested for just another 15mins to check out at 12.15pm just to make sure we got everything packed properly, but they said "no-no cannot must check-out now"!!!! can u believe this??

Al's Resort needs an improve.

by NATALIA IRIMIA MARFUL from BARCELONA, Spain, 17 Aug 08

The hotel is old and little care. We think that when they opened the hotel it was very nice. Now it's nice but there are many things to improve: paint the wood of the pool, the most noisy air conditioned that I never seen in the room, broken chairs in the pool, a lot of lizards in the hotel,it's normal, but it isn't normal that they stay in the room.

The hotel needs an improve.

The hotel is in the center of Chaweng beach. It's perfect because you can go to shopping or dinner in many places close to the hotel.

The noise of Chaweng road doesn't disturb the guests of the hotel.

Good Location, expensive

by Anonymous User, 23 Jan 06

Nice room, but expensive for what we payed. Some staff were great, reception was poor, pool staff were poor, and never had enough towels, so we had to use our room towels half the time. Good location and very nice resort (right on beach).

Over-rated

by andrew from australia, 13 Jun 06

Anyone who says the breakfast is good has got to be joking. Worst on the island by far. The restaurant is all glassed in and the sun comes straight in in the morning. They have all there fruit sitting in the sun. The same sausages sat there for a week and when they were going off they cut them up and put them in the fried rice.

The lady at reception was rude and when we asked to be moved away from some loud partying rooms they said no even though there was lots of available rooms.

The best thing about the place is the pool.

Very good location; all else, tolerable.

by Anonymous User from San Francisco, CA, 30 Nov 06

Very good location. Nice beach right in front. No real view of the sea from the 'Ocean View' rooms. Staff tolerable. Breakfast tolerable. Good value. Al's Hut offers a more green setting outside the bungalows on your way to the beach front.

Good location, Unhappy staff

by Anonymous User from BKK, Thailand, 13 Sep 06

Just got back from Samui. We stayed at this resort. Good location, but staff are not helpful at all. They seem to be very unhappy. When we asked them for something it was like we disturbed them, especially staff in Reception section. We stayed in one of the garden room. It was average.

Even though the price is reasonable, the location is great ... we are not going back there again.
