Incredible Customer Service

by Jo-Anne from Vancouver, Canada, 19 Mar 07

February, 2007 - We arrived without a booking and resort was full. Lovely woman at the reception phoned around to other resorts for us (even to other islands). Receptionist booked our ferry and arranged for a taxi. As we had to wait 4 hours for our ferry, Al's Resort stored our bags for us (free of charge), even though we were not staying at this resort. We were welcome to change and use the pool, where we ordered lunch.

The rooms around the pool looked elegant and fresh. The pool was lovely with a swim-up bar, overlooking the beach. It was unfortunate there were no rooms available, as the customer service was superb. The same time last year we stayed at Al's Huts and were very pleased. They do not have a pool but guests can use the pool at Al's Resort. I would not hesitate to give this resort my business.

Cheap, boutique hotel on the beach!

by Kelly from Los Angeles, CA, 13 Dec 06

Al's Resort may not have the amenities or personal service that I typically enjoy, but you simply can't beat the location and price! I even had a massage at Al's spa (which isn't a spa, but rather a relaxing open room on the beach where you can enjoy a $8/hr massage while you idly gaze at the ocean).

Definitely one of the cheapest and best locations on Chaweng Beach. It's walking distance to all the main shops, restaurants and bars in Koh Samui island. The standard rooms are quite attractive, well kept, air conditioned, and only a few steps from the beach!

Note: None of the rooms have ocean views, and they're all adjacent, so only book a standard or else you'll end up disappointed.

Al's Resort is a great home-base from which to explore the island, but is certainly not a destination in and of itself... No award-winning restaurant or pool, and with all fairness the hotel service is rather non-existent, but sometimes all you really need is a nice, affordable bungalow on the beach.

Wish I had longer there....

by Anonymous user from London, UK, 18 Mar 07

Little bit expensive I think i had a beachside bungalow there was no view but was very easy access to the beach but garden apartments would have been just as easy, but this was by far the best accommodation I had on my trip (I only stayed here for 3 nights). Great location was central to everything. I was traveling alone and felt very safe at all times.

The food at the (evening) restaurant was superb! The beach was quite busy, but i suppose that's to be expected in a central location.

All in all this was a great place to stay if you're willing to pay that bit extra for good standard central accommodation without paying 5* prices.

Choose the location

by Puma from China, 12 Jan 07

The first time when I went to Koh Samui, found this hotel in the yard of a supermarket. So booked it when I went back to this island. Al's Resort is quit OK for staying. Excellent thing is the location.

Would be dream to be here again, spent 3 weeks there

by Annick from living around Brussels/Belgium, 18 Feb 07

My stay at Al's resort in may 2006 was really good. I enjoyed very much the room (decoration and comfort), the pool is ideally situated with a wonderful view on the sea. The food at night on the beach a "little paradise" or during day time around the swimming pool.

Chaweng is quite busy day and night time but the hotel is far from all the noises. The good supermarket you find going out of the hotel is also a good help. I will never hesitate to go back in this hotel ans warmly recommend it to persons who wants to keep a good souvenir of Koh Samui. Just don't forget to have a meal at Popie's = The best "chef" of Koh Samui!!

Good room and location only

by Anonymous User from Victoria, Australia, 23 Dec 07

Good location, nice pool. Room was nice but not very sound proof from noise outside. Breakfast wasn't that great and was cold. Little information was provided about the resort, services, etc and we had to ask about beach towels, whether the drinking water was free, etc whereas other hotels had provided this info and more when we arrived.

Enjoyable Stay

by Meng Earn Lim from Malaysia, 13 May 08

I went to Koh Samui on end of April for 4 days and stayed at Al's Resort. We booked a studio room and the room is lovely, clean, tidy, cozy and all the basic necessities such as telephone, hair dryer, cable tv and towels are provided. The location of the resort is perfectly situated in the middle of Chaweng town, within walking distance to the party district of Soi Green Mango and Tops supermarket is just outside the hotel, it is so convenient. The Chaweng beach is just behind the resort and they have an open-air massage room facing the sea.

The resort staff, especially the reception ladies are very helpful and friendly. Previous reviewers advised not to mess with the reception ladies, but I found them to be very helpful, maybe they have hired new staff. If you have any problem, just go to them and they will try to solve the problem for you.

The only setback is the breakfast which seems to be eternally the same during our stay. It will be good if they can change the menu of their breakfast everyday. Not to worry about lunch and dinner as we sampled the food at Chaweng town which is just walking distance from the resort. The resort also has motorbikes for rent and we enjoyed the ride very much.

Overall I am satisfied with Al's Resort and will definitely stay here again the next time I come to Koh Samui. Will definitely recommend this resort to my friends and relatives

Helpful people

by irene from Malaysia, 25 Apr 08

The receptionist was very helpful on all of our request. It is very convenient since it is just steps away from the town. Can't believe there is such hotel around in the town
so exotic and peaceful.

Sadly, they should improve on their breakfast. It is food for 1 day but everyday same food is boring.

Overall, will recommend friends who are going to stay there.

Great atmosphere and location

by Anonymous User from Hong Kong, 5 Jul 08

The rooms were clean and tidy and housekeeping staff were very pleasant. We stayed at one of the 'deluxe suites' which was great, compared to the smaller twin bed rooms closer to the resort entrance.

Breakfast was average and pool was quite small. The resort, however, was on the best location - right on Chaweng Beach, just a minute away from a supermarket and a short walk's distance from the town centre, where all the shopping and excellent food is. It was generally a very relaxing and peaceful stay. Great value for money!

+ Be careful if you have paid online with a credit card, there seemed to have been some confusion with other guests about whether the staff had charged the entire sum or just a deposit. Would definitely recommend this place though!

Yes, I will back if I plan to go Samui again.

by YE XIANG XIANG from Guandong, China, 27 Oct 08

I really have to thanks for the lady in reception. She help us to arrange everything. I checked out at 4:00AM in the early morning and she help me to arrange breakfast and car to pick me up from the resort to pier. Here I want to say thank you very much for your well arrangement.

For this resort, the location is very good. The beach in front of the resort is very beautiful. Also the massage in AI's resort is pretty good. But one thing they have to improve, the bed in the room is not comforation. It's too soft so that they can not support my back.
