24 HOURS RECEPTION WITH MANAGER DUTY

by LEONA LEONG from SINGAPORE, 4 May 06

I stay in Al's resort on 14 April 06 to 17 April 06. Every things for this resort is fine, BUT on my 3rd stay, I'm not feeling well during midnight 4am so i call the front office and ask whether can get me a doctor. But the front officer say that he don't understand what i say?(means he don't understand English)
so my hubby go to the front office and try to explain what is DOCTOR but the office is CLOSED! (the door is lock with padlock) at that time, 2 ladies (worker) come and asked my hubby what happen? And they send me to the hospital. Many thanks to them. But the problem is Al's Resort stated (RECEPTION WITH MANAGER DUTY ON 24 HOURS) 24 hours means till 4am closed for a while? But hereby i would say that this resort is very nice and clean. only the FRONT OFFICE. I will stay in this resort again but I hope that 24HRS for DUTY MANAGER must in duty for 24HRS

We really cannot wait to go back and won't hesitate to book at Al's Resort

by Christine Shannon from NSW, Australia, 18 May 06

We always book for 2 nights in any place we are visiting and then decide where we will spend the rest of our vacation. After realising the location was excellent, the rooms were very comfortable, that it was right on the beach (and importantly the area of the beach that you can swim in because you have to be careful that the accommodation isn't at the northern end of the beach where the water is full of rocks) we booked for the remainder of our holiday. Any of the rooms would be fine to stay in (we stayed in one of the cabins although looked in the garden view rooms and would have been happy in one of them). I think the difference between the cabins and the garden view rooms is the cabin has a bath and continual hot water and garden view has a small hot water system and only a shower (probably does 2 quick showers, before having to heat back up but I believe it heats up very quickly). I only used the shower to wash my clothes in anyway!

There is a supermarket next door to the resort which is great to buy your supplies. We took the hotel bar supplies out of the fridge and stocked up from the supermarket. The entrance to Al's Resort is right in the hub of the main shopping area and a 1 minute walk to the bars and night life.

We walked the beach and the streets and decided when we go back we will definitely stay at Al's for our next visit. It really is in a great location. The staff were very friendly and helpful.

If you are going to Koh Samui (and you'd be mad not to go there) you couldn't find a better location than this resort.

Awful Service

by Anonymous User from Palm Beach, Australia, 21 May 06

Al's resort was disappointing for what we were expecting. We stayed in the nicer rooms which are definitely worth the money and very comfortable. The pool is nice and location is perfect and in the best spot on Chaweng beach.

However the service here was terrible. The people at the front desk were extremely unhelpful and rude. We requested to be moved to another room due to excess noise outside our room in the evenings and they refused, despite having plenty of empty rooms.

I would not stay here again. We also stayed at the Iyara Resort Plaza and this was much better in terms of services and facilities.

Happy to go back but with some reservations

by Anonymous User, 1 Jun 06

A regular visitor of Thailand included Koh Samui but describing Al's resort as it is a small cheap construction less than one year old. Hotel is in a very good location for those whom enjoy Chaweng beach and its waves. But indeed no sea view only for rooms 100 up to 105 if going out from the rooms you can see it turning your heads aside, no Spa as such (nothing to compare with Bali ). Only an Open massage room facing the beach with pleasant Thai massage ladies.

The staff is sometimes smiling, the food and the cleanness are under standards. So many other places to go to that the The Al's resort Management has to correct those services expected totally missing to stay as quoted a 3 stars hotel.

Over-rated

by andrew from australia, 13 Jun 06

Anyone who says the breakfast is good has got to be joking. Worst on the island by far. The restaurant is all glassed in and the sun comes straight in in the morning. They have all there fruit sitting in the sun. The same sausages sat there for a week and when they were going off they cut them up and put them in the fried rice.

The lady at reception was rude and when we asked to be moved away from some loud partying rooms they said no even though there was lots of available rooms.

The best thing about the place is the pool.

My next stay will still be Al's.

by Houyiwen from Shanghai, China, 19 Jun 06

We stayed there for more than 4 nights, it's so far the best location i have ever stayed in Samui. Beach is great with white sand and pool is excellent. Breakfast is rich. It doesn't have a big lobby, so it's a very comfortable resort, by the way, who will need a big lobby near the beach, the price will go up with those useless fancy lobbies.

Excellent location

by Archie from Hong Kong, 27 Jun 06

- "The SEAVIEW matter" -
Stayed in the Deluxe Seaview room for 3 nights. As mentioned in the previous comments, there wasn't actually an exact "seaview" (mmm if you sit at the balcony and turn your head right you would see the sea thru the beach entrance), but just a shorter distance to the beach when compared with the garden-view room.

However I wonder if it was because my room was not facing the garden so there was very few mosquitoes noticed.

- "The service" -
Honestly the first impression wasn't that good, but later I found out that every time when there were more than two customers waiting at the front desk the reception would kind of frown and become a bit irritated. They were indeed friendly and helpful (...when I asked them for help in the early morning/evening) :P

- "The pool" -
Yes it was rather small, especially when someone was using an aerobed (!!!) and a bunch of kids were playing water-polo in that less than 15 feet infinity pool. Geeze.

The no-more-towel matter was still there. Better get your towels before noon!

- "Overall" -
Tho it's not perfect but given its price and really good location I would definitely stay there again.

We can't wait to go back!)

by Wai Yin HA from Hong Kong, 27 Jun 06

Really convenience, Can go to "TOPS", a famous supermarket in Thailand, to buy things in just a minute.

Cheap in room rate. Just few steps to beautiful beach.

Great location! Can't beat it!

by Melissa K from Toronto, Canada, 3 Jul 06

I was recommended to Al's Resort by a friend who had recently stayed there. I heard good things about it, and I wasn't too disappointed.

The location is EXCELLENT... right on the beach... right off the main street... close to pretty much everything. The beach was great: nice, white sand and quite clean. There were lots of sellers, but they didn't bother me. The pool at Al's is really nice also... right on top of the beach with comfy loungers. The food is pretty good... breakfast was nice, but served in the restaurant with no a/c and very little circulated air. It was difficult to really enjoy a leisurely breakfast when I was sweating already!

I was not greeted warmly at all...there had been a mix-up with the booking and, apparently, I did not have a reservation. This, after traveling all morning from another island. The lady in reception was less than friendly, and actually raised her voice to me! Rolling her eyes and muttering under her breath, she was quite rude. She had a hard time using a polite voice to explain to me what was going on. It ended up that I would stay in one room for the first night and then to another for the duration of my stay. Fine.

The first room was lovely... simple, yet clean and elegant. Very comfortable. Really wonderful. However, the second room's bed was absolutely horrible. I felt like I was sleeping on a slab of wood with a layer of concrete for padding. Absolutely the worst bed I've ever slept in...my joints were SO sore! But nothing could be done because "all the rooms are full, miss". Well...

All in all, I had a good time. For what I paid, it was a super deal! I would go back, but do my very best to ensure a nicer, more comfortable bed. But for the location, you can't beat it!

Fabulous resort except for the ladies at the reception

by JEANETTE from Bangkok, Thailand, 13 Aug 06

Every time I go to Samui I stay at Al's Resort ... the location and resort is fantastic! One thing I will warn you about is the lady at the reception ... she maybe might not be the nicest person. Mind you, she might be nicer to 'Farangs' but I wouldn't' bet my money on it. So if you keep your visits to the reception to a minimum you will have a great time.

The morning buffet is more than enough to fill you until lunch and the staff there and at the pool are fantastic!!!
