Great all round

by Annonymous User from Australia, 23 Mar 07

The staff were fantastic, the rooms beautiful and the grounds just wonderful. The gardens were so amazing, I wish I could grow orchids like that at home.

If you are after isolation then this is a great resort.

We hired motorbikes so it was really easy to get around. We adventured around the island and found some great local restaurants near by.

The beach out the front of the resort was picturesque but we just swam in the pool every day and looked out to the ocean.

The only minor thing was the food at the restaurant could be a bit hit and miss. Nothing we ate was bad, it is just not that well described on the menu so you can be surprised by what you get sometime. With the great and cheap local restaurants like "You and Me" and "A Garden" near by we ate out a lot.

I can also highly recommend the restaurant at Zazen Resort just down the road, pricey by Thai standards but well worth it. We loved Zazen so much we went twice. I highly recommend the Ban Laem Sai Resort.

Loved every minute!!

by Sjoerd + Cindy from Netherlands, 20 Oct 06

This resort is absolutely amazing! Beautiful surroundings and the room was fantastic. We stayed in a chalet. The room was very spacious with a great view.
The staff was very friendly and helpful.

The location is a bit remote (between Maenam and Bo Phut) and the road from the hotel to the main road is dark (at night). We liked it not to be in the middle of a crowdy place. If you like to go to Maenam, Bo Phut of Chaweng just walk to the main road and take a taxi.

The food in the restaurant is very very good! You should try the Red Snapper. Absolutely wonderful!

If you like to go to Samui and stay in a place that is not in the middle of everything which has great food, lovely staff and beautiful rooms: go to Ban Laem Sai!

We want to go back!

Stunning secluded & relaxing resort

by Sarah Purdy from New Zealand, 17 Oct 06

Ban Laem Sai is quite new (opened in Feb 06), so everything is really nice and in pristine condition. The resort itself is beautiful, set on a hill - so many of the rooms have views, although the best ones are from the Jacuzzi Apartments but they are further up the hill. The Villas are lovely and very comfortable to stay in, plus nice and close to the pool and restaurant area. Ask for one with a beach/pool view if possible.

The Pool is fantastic and loungers are great. We stayed with friends and it was a fantastic time - we couldn't have asked for better. Well worth a visit and couldn't fault the resort at all.

Only down side is location - if you want to be right in the midst of things this is prob not for you. It's only 15mins drive from Chaweng though, and nice and secluded and relaxing if you like a break from all craziness. Would be good if the hotel put on a few more free shuttles though, but this may come when there are more hotel guests.

Maenam Beach isn't amazing, but the resort pool area and loungers are right on the beach and it's at the end of a bay so very private, peaceful and as long as you're happy swimming in the pool it's perfect. You won't get at all hassled by beach vendors etc. Was a bit exposed to high winds at the time we went (Sept/Oct), but this wasn't too much of a problem. The beach around the point is Bophut which is lovely and has the cheap beach massage stations etc that Maenam doesn't tend to. You can't walk around by the beach (too rocky) but you can walk around the road and cut through one of the resorts to get to the beach. Zazen is lovely and well worth an amazing dinner (special occasion as is a bit more pricey).

Would thoroughly reccommend Ban Laem Sai, we had the best time and would love to go back already!

For a relaxing and comfortable vacation

by Anonymous User from Germany, 10 Oct 06

We had really relaxing and comfortable days in this hotel. We had a very comfortable room/chalet with jacuzzi with a very amazing view around the whole Menaem Beach. The hotel is situated in a very quite area and for us it was important that we are not in the direct neighborhood of Chaweng. To go there or around the island, we rented a motor-bike for the time of our stay and that is the easiest way to go around.

The negative things: you are nearly at the smallest part of the beach and for a swim, you have to be careful for all the rocks directly in front of you. And it is not the best hotel for families.

Emerging 5 star

by wade barrance from New Zealand, 7 Oct 06

This hotel was incomparable ... We stayed at Nora at the same time last year and although we thought Nora was amazing at the time. Ban Laem Sai, beat it hands down I have to say for a similar price ... (go through AtSiam.com). Ban laen sai is amazing. Like an oasis in a jungle of coconut plantations ... we were a picky bunch, but found the detail in hospitality, service, rooms, and location well up to scratch.

The pool and location was absolutely beautiful. The room we were in was a jacuzzi chalet and was unbelievable .. so gorgeous. Some people have complained about the hike up the hill to these rooms ... but I reckon, they must be seriously lazy, as we found them steep but relatively easy throughout the day. After a day at the pool ... you need to work a few muscles anyway!

In general, we felt that it was an amazing place to stay ... it was quiet and tranquil, yet near enough to Chaweng to get some great shopping in.

All in all, A PLUS!

Beautiful Hotel ... but ...

by Faigie Grunberg from Israel, 25 Sep 06

The Baan Laem Sai was a most stunning hotel ... we booked a pool villa, which was quite expensive but absolutely beautiful. The private pool was worth the stay there! Must say that the rooms were very small on Thai standards (and spending 3 weeks in Thailand, we've been to quite a few hotels). Bathrooms were beautiful and spacious. Not enough closet space, nor floor space to put luggage.

Again, the place is beautiful. the location is a bit far out ... fine for honeymooners like we were, but still expensive taxi ride (400 Baht) if you want to go to Chaweng.

We definitely felt that the service was lacking at the hotel. the shuttles to Chaweng beach were only 2 or 3 times a day ... we felt that the hotel should provide more frequent shuttles (only a 10 minute ride).

As this was our 3rd hotel in Thailand, we were accustomed to really great service, and didn't feel that "all smiles" attitude at the Ban Laem Sai. Shame. Our bed was decorated with flower petal hearts the day we came - real nice, but as they didn't bother with turn down service, we had to clean the flower petals up on our own. Not so nice.

We asked to have mosquito coils put outside the room at nights and to spray out the room while we are at dinner (other hotels do that) but they only did this on the day we asked, and not very graciously either. The staff's English was not good enough which should not happen at 5* hotels.

All in all, we were disappointed that such a beautiful hotel would not make us sad to leave.

we loved this place!

by Ayumi from Japan, 10 Sep 06

We really liked their lovely spacious room with huge bathroom which had a bathtub and separated shower booth (stayed at Chalet room for 7 nights). As it's opened since Dec 2005, everything was very clean and new. All staffs were very friendly and helpful even though some were not good at speaking in English.

Very quiet location but as it's situated at the end of the Meanam beach, it was quite far to get lovely local restaurants/bars which we can find on the opposite side of the beach. We walked to get there for 20 min along the beach. Or the hotel has a free-transfer service to Chaweng beach 3 times per day, though it's just one-way service (don't know why).

Their restaurant was excellent! Of course it's costly if compared with very local restaurant, but their Thai foods and seafood (especially Blue Crab saute in curry powder!) were really great!! We don't know how western foods were because we never tasted them, anyway please try some Thai seafood at their restaurant!

(FYI: never recommend you the Big John Restaurant listed on the Samui Dinning Guide ... their seafood, crabs, king prawns, mussels were not fresh at all and strange music continuously disturbed our dunner..)

We even extended our stay!

by Wolfgang Klos-Geiger from Gutech, Germany, 30 Aug 06

We liked that place that much that we changed our plans and extended by one more night! If you are looking for a quite but not too remote place on Samui island, you will not be disappointed, especially when you have a car or rent a bike. Within a few minutes drive you are in bustling Chaweng or Lamai beaches - but you will like the quite atmosphere Ban Laem Sai offers.
Excellent restaurant for breakfast, snacks, dinner and drinks, nice spa facilities.

We had a grand villa (with extra bed) which is good value for money. Others might wish to climb the hill and overlook the resort and sea from a chalet balcony - also very impressive and very big rooms.

The gym was just finished (didn't check it) but the location promises good refreshing views during excercise.

When planning to return to Samui - we definitely will stay there!

Loved every minute of it!

by Sylvia Marion Ager from Hong Kong and Cyprus, 3 Aug 06

We loved our stay here. The staff are exceptional and our chalet room high on the hillside was stunning. The view was spectacular and the jacuzzi quite idyllic. It's a hike, but worth it! The food is good and a big variety of restaurants are available in Bophut, though it is a 30 minute walk away. We will return as soon as possible!

Jaw-droppingly awesome!

by Anonymous User from London, UK, 17 Jul 06

What an awesome hotel!! Stayed here for 10 days in June, and there simply are not enough positive superlatives to begin to describe the Ban Laem Sai. Beautiful rooms (we had an outdoor spa on a balcony overlooking Maenam beach), great facilities, and a level of service that does the impossible by raising itself well & truly above the pack, which before this stay I would have said was impossible to do in Thailand.

Maenam is great for couples looking for something a little quieter - there are a handful of bars & restaurants you can walk along the beach to, but it is much quieter than Chaweng, Lamai and Bo Phut. Maenam is a stunning yet deserted beach during the day. Easy to get from Maenam to other places by motorbike or taxi, so you get the benefits of isolation with the option of getting to other places easily if you wish.

Forgot to mention the food at Ban Laem Sai - like the service, somehow they seem to have taken things to a whole new level. Impossible to believe, so must be experienced!

Only 2 types of people I would not recommend the Ban Laem Sai for: those who want lots of lively nightlife, and those wishing to walk no further than 10 metres from the resort (the sea is a little rocky infront of the hotel, but a short walk away you can swim fine). For everybody else I urge you to visit the Ban Laem Sai for a heavenly experience that you should never forget. Enjoy.
