Beware the pitfalls,- there are many.

by Nigel Norton from London, UK, 4 Aug 08

This hotel would not suit many people. The reasons are as follows,

1) Its location,- very isolated,- a good 35 minutes by taxi from Chaweng beach (Lamai 20 minutes) A shuttle bus is provided but has to be booked up the day before. In addition the last shuttle form chaweng returns at 9.15pm,- just when the nightlife gets going.Taxi fares ate into our budget big time.

2. The beach and sea. The beach is poor and impossible for swimming,- the sea is very shallow and dirty.

3. There is little or no entertainment.

4) The rooms ( we had a sea view villa) are dingy and uninspiring. We were also plagued by minor niggles,- the taps on the bath leaked and the hot water was only ever tepid. In addition, the fire alarm went off in our room and despite being reported 4 times no one came. We were forced to leave the room after 35 minutes and go in Lamai.

5) The steps make this hotel unsuitable for the elderly or anyone with a disability.

On the plus side, the rooms were spotless, the staff helpful and polite and the food good. In addition, staying here also enables you to use all the facilities of the Grand Centara on Chaweng beach,- something we found of huge benefit. Would we stay here again,- definitely no, but for those on a tight budget or requiring absolute peace and solitude then its worth considering.

Perfect family holiday resort.

by Happy customer. from Europe, 17 Aug 05

Very quiet location in south of the island. Very relaxing atmosphere. 3 lovely fresh water swimming pools. Far removed from discos, shops, nightlife and noise. Lovely safe beach but very shallow water unless tide in. Food in restaurant very good but limited choice as menu didn't vary.

Rooms really lovely and restaurant staff very pleasant and helpful. Lovely garden setting but lots of steps. A very private, quiet resort. Will definitely return.

Definitely going to go back

by Anonymous User from Sheffield, UK, 9 Nov 05

Central Samui village made our honeymoon, the beach was quiet and also the resort but only a 10/15min bike ride we were in Lamai and Chaweng beach where there are lots of bars and restaurants.

We found this resort to be great value for money that we are planning to return in 2006.

I read a lot of reviews about this place before I went and the majority of bad reviews were because of its location, people felt that it was to far from any night life etc. However, we found this not to be the case at all, if you hire a bike, car or even get taxi's to the bars, it costs very little. We had a great time in Koh Samui.

Definitely returning

by Jen from england, 2 Jan 06

We stayed here after travelling around Australia for a year we had booked two rooms as friends of ours were flying out to meet us so were nervous as to how it would be!! Thankfully it was wonderful! The rooms were beautiful with fresh flowers on our beds and spotlessly clean.

The swimming pools were lovely, the beach wasn't brilliant but there is a shuttle bus to their bigger hotel on Chaweng beach which has a good beach. The staff were really friendly and went out of their way to help us. Will definitely be returning to this hotel!!!

Got Butterfly?

by from Taiwan, 11 Jun 06

What we liked:
Quiet. Lots of wildlife like frogs, butterflies, birds and snakes to photograph.

What we disliked:
The beach is horrible. Their website makes it look like a pristine white sand beach. It's not! The water is disgusting. The sand is very rough and there is little of it. Very rocky and the water smells bad.

75% of the staff are poorly trained, not very friendly and some were quite abrasive.

The shuttle service to town is horrible. Very slow, hard to book seats on and not nearly enough times one can go. They should leave every hour. Not every three hours.

The butterfly garden next to the hotel is a total joke and scam. You see more butterflies walking down the street than in the "magical butterfly gardens."

The food is way too expensive and not nearly as delicious as all the restaurants in town.

All the tours from the hotel are almost double what they cost down the street and there really isn't much to do in the hotel. One days activity was actually napkin folding!

Too many stairs for anyone out of shape, old or too young, as well.

Second honeymoon beats the first!!

by Helen and Doug Hayes from Woodvale, Western Australia, 8 Jul 06

My husband and I have just returned from our second honeymoon, spending 14 nights at the Central Samui Village. My first trip to South East Asia and I wasn't sure what to expect, and wasn't over keen. It was just so perfect. Our own separate bungalow, nestled on a hillside, secluded by palms, right on the beach.

Conveniently 45 mins drive away from the big shopping area, Chaweng, which was a good thing, as we escaped back to our island paradise, away from the noise and hustle, after an exhausting days shopping. The Village ran a complimentary, air conditioned shuttle service, 5 times a day for guests from the hotel to either of the main shopping areas, and back. The staff were so friendly, and simply couldn't do enough. Nothing was too much trouble.

Highly recommend it, and we will definitely be going back.

Excellent for family holiday

by Anonymous User from Russia, 19 Dec 06

Overall impression is good but there are some points to mention:

Located away from “city life” – perfect if you are looking for peaceful place to hide away. Lovely swimming pools, clean beach, shallow sea but if you have children it’s perfect.

Food at the restaurant is really expensive compare to the restaurants in the town.

Taxi if ordered at the hotel is VERY expensive, few meters down the street you find taxi twice cheaper. We rented a motorbike - still it's cheaper to rent it not at the hotel :(

Thinking again before you make your choice

by Anonymous User from Thailand, 6 Jun 07

We were there at pool villa for 4 days, after the second day the pool has broken down. They couldn't fix it and also didn't change room for us. We ended up paying the full rate for pool Villa when there is only pool to look at.

Not only that their staff kept walking in our pool area to deliver their newspaper with our ringing the bell or knock. I never been to any hotel that have this bad service.

Please keep in mind if you're considering of going to Central Samui Village.

Lousy Place

by Anonymous User, 18 Jun 07

Not a nice place. Hundreds of steps all over. Not good for children. Very dark at nights. Rooms dirty & infested with cockroach & lizards. Breakfast terrible. Food not replenished. Coffee like water. Staff generally very slow and unhelpful. Just terrible.

NO- Thai Hospitality Here

by KT from SG, 21 Jun 07

We arrived close to midnight at Samui Village. We had 3 room bookings. Only 1 porter to lead us to only 1 room, with hundreds of steps and dimly lit walking areas. Sad to say, we were told we had adjoining rooms (3 kids). Found out later in the dark that our rooms were (right on top for 1 unit, & the other right below). Our friends had a triple room, in between us & their phone was O-O-O.

All we wanted was what we reserved.....adjoining rooms. The Duty Mgr was in T & shorts & had apparently gone out clubbing as we had to wait 45mins for her return. She got lost finding our room, imagine that. The EAM at first refused to meet us as he was sleeping. We waiting for over an hour for him to arrive. He wasn't helpful at all. There were lots of cockroaches in the room plus a huge one in the safe. Mosquitoes were abundant as vegetation was overwhelming. We got transferred out to a beautiful resort 5 mins away the next day.
