We would love to stay there again.

by Lee Chee Hong from Selangor, Malaysia, 13 Jun 08

This place is very nice especially room 801 as it is facing the sea with swimming pool at the side.Walking distance around 1 minute only from all the hotspot at Chaweng. Highly recommended.

Dissapointing for Beachside Resort

by Ms Marish Delmundo from QLD, Australia, 2 Apr 08

Hello,

We Stayed at the Island Resort & Spa and was pretty disappointed. Our friend recommended the place to us and it was not at all what we expected. The bungalows was old and needed repair and paint. The shower had no pressure and you were submitted to only one temperature and an awful rotten smell that came out out of it when you first turned it on. Windows wouldn't open to let fresh air in.

There was not enough chairs and umbrellas for guest to sit at the beach and the breakfast buffet was very average. I don't think it was worth the money we paid to be at the beach location.

The stay was good for the price!

by WEYERMANN Daniel from Zuerich, Switzerland, 9 Mar 08

We were disappointed because we didn't get an extension (late check out) for 2 hrs, also even there were rooms available.

The team is OK but not always in a good mood, but though always there for you, and that s what we wanted, very good location and clean! Would definitely go there again!

We can't wait to go back

by Oferu and Ilanit from Israel, 27 Feb 08

Lovely place, excellent location, good breakfast. Bad restaurant. I got the pool vila an it was splendid.

Very nice staff, always smiling and willing to help. The room was beautiful and clean. The only thing we didn't like was the restaurant dinner which was not so good.

It is valuable

by Dai, Daffy from China, 18 Feb 08

It has problems as many have mentioned previously such as noisy beach, boring breakfast, far from enough of chairs on the pool side and beaches... etc;

However, one can not value it with a 5 star hotel standard, have been the hotel for 5 nights, I'd say that it is a good value for money, and I'll be back again.

Value for Money

by OFK from Malaysia, 14 Feb 08

Considering the money paid, Island Resort is a GREAT bargain. The room is clean. Although the toilet and the tables are a bit out of shape, but they are clean.

The location is pretty good. Take a 15 minutes walk south and you can reach the centre of Chaweng. Along the way, you can find most of the hotspots (restaurant, massage, souvenir shops etc).

The waves in Feb 08 are pretty strong. However, the northen Chaweng Beach is protected by a outer layer of sand/rocks (not sure natural or manmade). Therefore, the waves near Island Resort are relatively more friendly. Waves from centre to south chawend are very strong and may not be ideal for "not-so-good" swimmer.

Breakfast is routine (everyday is the same). It would be better to try your lunch and dinner somewhere else.

Hair Dryer is not available (said "taken by others" by
housekeeping) and neither is the Kettle for boiling water.

For budget traveler, it will definitely a good choice. I will go back again considering the price and value.

Chewang Beach

by Matt from NSW, Australia, 3 Nov 07

Stayed in sea view villa, great location, room only 20m to beach and right by the pool & restaurants. Staying here was very enjoyable as everything is within walking distance. If your staying at Chawang you have to stay on a beach from property.

Amazing! totally in love with Thailand, Koh samui and the Island resort

by reagan from North Shore City, Auckland, New Zealand, 20 Jul 07

Wicked place. So stoked with it. Highly recommend. Went with my girlfriend - 21 and 20. Booked via the Internet so didn't really know what to expect. Location is excellent, right on the beach. Close to everything you need. Swimming directly in front of the resort is only good at high tide and a couple of hours before and after. But that's not a problem. If u want to swim in the sea you just have to walk down the beach a bit if it isn't close to high tide. Pool is beautiful - theres a main pool which spills over into a kids pool. We stayed in a Deluxe Bungalow. Double bed with love heart petals on the bed, great quite air con, desk and large mirror. Just like the photos on their website. Toilets are average. Not bad but not amazing either - if i was being pickie the shower water smelled of waste when u first turned on but thats every where and goes away.

The room was extremely clean and cleaners did an wicked job daily. The resort is set amongst large trees, gardens and walk ways. The included breakfast is fantastic. Everything you could want. A selection of fresh fruits. bacon sausages, eggs any way u want, French toast, pancakes, pasteries collection, ham, Chinese and Thai food and fruit juices and water. Normally costs 200 Baht per person.

From 6.30 till 10.30.bar tenders are great. Happy hour for drinks and cocktails is 12 till 5pm. only 90 Baht for cocktails and they are the best we tried (and we tried a lot)-thanks. Didn't eat dinner or lunch there so can't comment on that but would presumably be as good as everything else the resort had to offer - dinner dinning is on the beach meters from the sea.

If I was to be critical of the resort the main negative would be the reception staff, they are not that friendly - the rest of the staff are outstanding. When we were departing the security staff tried to rip us off by 25 Baht saying that we had drunk a drink from the mini bar. But hadn't so look out for that.

Overall I don't think you would find a better place on Chaweng beach considering the price. You get everything the big flash resorts offer you at a cheap price. I would highly recommend it to anybody that is looking to save money on accommodation but still get a great room and experience of Thailand and Koh Samui. The only people I wouldn't recommend it to would be extremely rich people who don't worry about how much their accommodation costs.

Oh yeh if you are arranging transfers wit your travel agent ... don't. Its not worth it. When u land walk past the ppl asking you if you want a taxi. They will charge u and arm n a leg - around 300 - 500B. Find a brightly coloured taxi with a "taxi-meter" sign on the top of it and ask them to take you to your hotel on the meter. The most we paid for a taxi was 100 Baht and that was for an hour an a bit in bangkok. It might be a bit more of a hassle but its 4 cocktails at happy hour. If you have any questions email me at reagan_jh(at)hotmail.com and i'll try help you out.

Had a great stay

by Annonymous User from New Zealand, 27 Apr 07

Booked both a twin and a double standard bungalow. Both were better than expected, although the double was larger. Very good breakfast and staff were always polite. Lovely pool. There is a shortage of sun loungers by the pool and on the beach, however the hotel is owned by the same people that own Al's Hut and Al's Resort and you can walk down the beach were the swimming is better and use their chairs and pool. The Island resort was good value for money. We would be happy to stay there again.
