Good value for the money

by maureen, 1 Sep 08

Staff very nice, airport pick-up (400 BHT) 100% in time, driver very nice and helpful, check-in fast, staff at restaurant nice, food really good, pool nice size, good location, swimming not possible at all times but a bit further down (300m) super conditions, construction going on at the moment, some noise, sunbeds at pool and beach, enough at most of the times,

Nice good value Hotel

by Gayle Jones from United Kingdom, 7 Jul 08

I have stayed here in 2006 and 2008 and it has been lovely both times, rooms are very nice and great value for money, it is very clean and well maintained. The Hotel reception, grounds staff and cleaners are excellent, however service in the restaurant is very poor compared to how it used to be. It was an effort to get a response from people and the food was not to the standard it once was. We had one very good night there when we had a fish meal and the seafood waiter was first rate as was the food but the rest of the time it was the worst service in Samui which is a real shame as it was the quality of the restaurant on a visit in 2005 that made us want to stay there on future visits.

I would still go back as the accommodation standard is very nice and the location is great but I would be far less inclined to eat there in future unless they turn things around.

This one makes the short list

by Paul L. Brackmann from Denver, Colorado, 19 Apr 08

This place is amazing for the price. We had the beachfront bungalow which was perfect for us. The rooms aren't brand new and modern in the bungalows but they are very clean and more than adequate.

The water at the beach is less than stellar due to a reef just off shore that doesn't allow for waves and really fresh water. If you really need beach water than you want to go further south on Chaweng beach.

The pool here is amazing and looks to be the best on the beach. Breakfast was amazing every morning. The staff was very helpful and always smiling and helpful. The bungalows and secluded enough to be private yet the estate is right in the middle of the action on Chaweng Beach.

We really enjoyed this place and would surely return in the future.

Would definitely go back

by Ronnie from NSW, Australia, 5 Feb 08

I stayed at Montien House for 5 days in January 08 and I would highly recommend it. The standard room was great and my only gripe would be I thought it doesn't have cable tv.

The gardens were lovely and the pool was great except you need to get in early to reserve a sun bed. Buffet breakfast was great and food in restaurant was also good. Staff were lovely and hotel was in a great location.

I would choose it again

by Wu chia chen from Taiwan, 5 Dec 07

The staff are kind and the dinner is good. We rent a motorbike at Montien house, it's cheap and the bike is pretty new. The room we booked is the superior room, the space is quiet enough, location is pretty good(near the beach).

Avoid this hotel/resort at all cost`s

by b and j c from new zealand, 23 Aug 07

Day of arrival without water to room for 2 hours. Third day, without electricity for 8 hours. Water tap to operate shower was faulty. Tv would not function correctly.

Reception area and restaurant very dirty. The area over the hot plate where eggs and bacon were prepared for breakfast, was thick with grease and full of tree leaves. I do not think this part of the dining area could have been cleaned since the resort opened for business.

My advice, avoid this place if possible.

by clare wilson from london, 5 Apr 07

Loved the Montien House. I was advised to ask for a room in the building as they are newly refurbished and I was not disappointed with it. Great location and lovely pool. Food disappointing but didn't have to eat there. Overall a great stay .

Will definitely book Montien House again

by Jo-Anne from Vancouver, Canada, 19 Mar 07

March, 2007 - We arrived without a booking and staff was very helpful. We booked a room for 3 weeks later for 3 nights. Deluxe bungalow in front of pool (beach front) was lovely. Very clean and bedding smelled wonderful. Nice hot shower/bath tub (pressure was so good it almost removed my tan!).

Previous reviews regarding bad smell when toilet is flushed was very true. However, we just lit an incence each time toilet was flushed and kept bathroom door closed ... no problem.

Complimentary breakfast was very nice. Fresh fruit, juices, coffee (instant of course!), breads, hot rice/chicken, hot noodles, eggs & omelets made to order, bacon & sausages...what else do you need? Lunch/menu items very good.

The staff was very friendly and helpful, English no problem. Live entertainment (fabulous singer) in the evening at the beach for dinner (good food, good service, reasonably priced). Pool was always clean. All beach loungers around the pool were reserved with towels early in the morning. This is not uncommon, as most of the resorts share their pool with neighboring resorts which do not have one. The beach in front of the resort was quiet due to the breakwater rocks not far out.

I would recommend this resort to anyone looking for a relaxing time. It caters to a more mature crowd, as the thumping music for the younger (party) set is farther down the beach. Shopping is all along the street behind the resort.

Excellent location but shame about the smell of sewerage

by JONATHAN KELLY from London, England, 8 Feb 07

Excellent Location but there was a strong smell of sewerage that surrounded the place. This smell was also strong within the individual bathrooms, especially after the toilets had been flushed.

The superior cottages were clean and comfortable but rather dated and are in need of refurbishment. The food in the restaurant was very good and the staff were very helpful. Overall it was reasonable value for money and we would stay there again.
