A WONDERFULL PLACE
by Robert Dicker from Moray, United Kingdom, 30 Oct 07
“We enjoyed our stay, from collection at the airport to leaving we could not find fault. The food was wonderful, the staff were very friendly and helpful.
The only problem was the weather (it rained for 5 days non stop) was beyond the control of the Pappillon.”
Papillon Resort Samui Overview
With its 23 Bungalows, Suites and Mini-Suite, Restaurant & Bar, Magnificient gardens, Jacuzzi and Pool, all situated by the beach.A dozen years ago, before the new millenium, Laurent, a young Butterfly from the Niceguy Massilia species, recently escaped from his french cocoon, liked to fly around on the Thai roads. When he suddenly discovered Koh Samui, the most beautiful flower of all, he decided to stop wandering to settle here and create his own paradise for travelers.
That's how, in the North of the famous Chaweng Beach, just a few minutes from the center of activities, yet far enough to be a perfect relaxing place, the Papillon was born…
Across the years, the subtle mix of the Thai charm, kindness and hospitality all with a Provincial overtone has led to the happiness and contentment of many of our visiting butterflies on vacation from around the world.
Meanwhile as the "wildflower" Samui has progressively grown into a sophisticated and much admired flower attracting more and more butterflies from around the world who came to enjoy the beauty of this island paradise, "Papillon" too had to grow… End of 2004, new rise for the Papillon.
With the arrival of a new French elf, Stefane (of the "Lutecia Sativa" species), a new metamorphosis giving to Papillon a new start.... More luxury, with miscalenous charms, and a refined decoration, the evolution of this hotel progressively, years after years, allows the new Papillon to reach prestige and know-how.
After a few month of restoration, Papillon Resort will enthusiasm you even more, with new services such as boutique, Sauna, Fitness…

- Na Muang Waterfalls Na Muang No. 1 is an easily accessible waterfall between Hua Thanon and Nathon, it's just at the end of a concrete road. Rocks and tree roots are forming a naturally staircase leading to a large pool at the base of the waterfall. Na Muang No. 2, takes you 10 minutes to climb up arocky path, which brings you to the base of the most beautiful waterfall on Samui. Another 20-minute walk will bring you to the top, it may be hard work for some but the vista surpasses everything. It is well worth the effort and don't forget to take your bathing costume as you can have a refreshing swim at the top, in a lovely lagoon overlooking the entire island. If you have any interest in visiting waterfalls, you should not miss the Na Muang 1 & 2.
- Hin-Ta et Hin-Yai also called Grandfather and Grandmother rocks. These rocks are located at the end of Lamai, and are one of Samui's natural wonders. This is also the best place to buy the beautiful bowls and vases, which are amongst the best handicrafts Samui has to offer. Made of local coconut palm wood they are the perfect souvenirs to remind you of your trip to paradise in years to come.
- Nathon is the capital of the island but it's no longer the biggest one. All public offices and banks are located there, as well as the ferries destined for Koh Pha-Ngan and mainland. If you want to go shopping, this is the place to go. The shops are similar to the shops in Chaweng but less expensive. This is a daytime shopping area, in the evening the majority open stalls along Chaweng's mainstreet. If you enjoy all the beautiful colors and fragrances of the east. You should definitely visit the local market in Nathon where many hotels buy their supplies, such as vegetable, fresh meat and fish. Not to be missed… If you visit Nathon in the evening, you have to remember to see the gorgeous sunset, where the sun dips into the sea behind Angtong National Marine Park.
Transportation
- Flight
You can catch a plane from the Bangkok International Airport, Don Muang. Bangkok Air flies direct to Samui airport and Thai Air flies to Suratthani. You can take a ferry from there.
- Bus
If you want a more economical way to travel, take the VIP bus from the well-known Khao San Road or from the Southern bus terminal at Boromrat Chonnani Road. The VIP buses are more comfortable than the so called A/C bus. You can buy a ticket in almost every travel agency in Bangkok. Ferry is often included in the price. - Train
Another great way to travel is the night train from Hualamphong, the Bangkok railway station, to Suratthani. The sleeping cars are comfortable. It is a little more expensive than the bus, but you will get a good sleep. Upper beds are less expensive than the lower ones. A private "first class" cabin is also available. - Ferry
The fastest ferry leaves from Donsak pier on the main land. The price is about 85 baht. The ferries are not luxurious in any way, but you will see many of the small surrounding islands if you don't fall asleep. Thai-guys on some ferries will maybe try to convince you that "their" resort on Samui is great.
