BETTER THAN FIVE STAR SERVICE !

by Terry R CURREY from West Yorkshire, United Kingdom, 4 May 08

This hotel is ideal for a stopover between Bangkok and Lanta. It is very clean and quite impressive for the price. The staff were very helpful and friendly, indeed within fifteen minutes of arriving at the hotel, the porter, having been asked where the nearest travel agent was located, so we can get boat tickets to Lanta, the next morning, had gone off and purchased the tickets for us, yes WITHIN FIFTEEN MINUTES OF OUR ARRIVAL.

Service you would not get at a five star hotel. Breakfast was better than some three star beach hotels we have stayed at. The ambience of the hotel was excellent and we shall certainly stay again at this little gem.

Great for family, good value for money

by TANIA from Singapore, 7 Aug 06

What I like:
This place is accessible by bus, from bus station and from Ao nang. It has a reasonable size swimming pool with kids pool. The room and bathroom are clean, considering the outward appearance of the hotel. The hotel staffs are all friendly, smiley and helpful. The food in the restaurant are reasonably priced and some dishes are quite nice. Try the stir-fried noodles with shrimp, pineapple rice. The spicy dishes are very spicy. Don't try if you can't take chili hot. A plus point is, there's a park nearby - THARA PARK, 5 mins drive, with a large playground and scenic view, but can be quite hot if you go on a sunny day.

What I dislike:
As I said, the place is a little old and small. To go for a swim, you have to walk out of the hotel, cross the road to the pool but the distance is very short. No pool towels are provided. There is no coffee and tea, no kettle provided in the room. Our bedroom view is a school, and if you are not staying during the weekend, you will have numerous kids peering at you whenever you go to the balcony, which I don't suppose you will, as it is also rather dusty. Otherwise, try to get a room not on that side of the hotel. There is also no safe provided in the room. Though the floor tile in the room looked shiny clean, it can be slippery when wet. To go the town to buy stuff you will need transport. We manage to rent a bike walking about 1km down the main road. No taxis in sight, so going to airport, you will have to get the hotel to ferry you at a cost of 300 Baht, less than 1/2 hour trip.

Will go back.

by Anonymous from Singapore, 30 Oct 06

We walked to the town centre. Not a long walk but too bad the reception doesn't have any map and we ended up missing the busiest spot. Take a long tail boat ride along the river which is good. Spoken English is limited but 1 day staff speaks better than the rest.

A good choice

by Concha Gonzalez from Spain, 12 Jan 07

We have booked two nights in this hotel but finally we stay a week. It is not in the centre of Krabi (that is not nice) but is 5 minutes walking to the restaurants and shops. A good choice for our holidays.

For budget traveller

by sotong from singapore, 14 Jun 07

Stayed here for 1 day as stopover. The place is reasonably priced for the room provided. Its not too far nor near the Thara beach and the excellent night market. But renting a bike should solve the problem. Actually the pool isn't that far, just in front of the hotel.

Good hotel !!

by Festina, 2 Aug 07

The hotel is very clean, that is for sure. I reserved the sea view room but we can't see it because of the trees. The kitchen downstairs is nice, breakfast is value for money.

Functional and convenient

by Ruth Fisher from Singapore, 23 Nov 07

This hotel is good value for money and is convenient for the airport. When we stayed there was a night market just a couple of minutes walk down the road which was great to look around.

Worth it.

Golden Hill Hotel is a very nice hotel. Room rates are good value for your money. Swimming pool is a plus as well. Would stay there again if we go back to Krabi.

OK hotel

by RK from Norway, 5 Jan 08

An OK hotel for its price. The staff were helpful but lacked good English skills. The location is a 10 minutes walk from the city center - but that is not a problem as it is easy and very cheap to take a tuk-tuk.

Clean and shifting service level

by Malena Nylin from Stockholm, Sweden, 23 Mar 08

Finally a really clean place! It's heaven when traveling with 2 small children, of which the 2,5-year-old spends most of his time on the floor. Floor and bath were spotless, and the bed sheets were wonderfully soft.

Situated a bit from down town, but with a free taxi-service! I was so surprised and pleased when i asked them to call me a taxi for going shopping, and the hotel staff actually drow me there, for free! And the real friendly and helpful guy waited outside to drive me back afterwards.

Only thing I wasn't so pleased with were the beds (as hard as many in Thailand are), and - mostly - the dead fish-look of breakfast staff.

I was coming with a 4-month baby on my arm and a happy and hungry 2,5-year old. My man was stuck up in the reception for 15 minutes, and I tried to collect something from the buffe for the rest of us... Staff glanced me when I tried to carry some breakfast to table with one hand at the same time as the 2,5-year-old stole marmalade from buffet, dropped juice on the floor and screamed to me that he dropped and needed a wipe. But not a question if I needed help, if they could carry me something or hold the baby or trying to entertain the hurricane-2,5-year-old, only staring... If at home, I would have complained to the manager. If they don't help me, they can at least pretend that they are not irritated.
