Yes and No

by Chris from Selangor, Malaysia, 1 Jul 08

1st of all, i have to say the camera man did a fantastic job. The actual don't look as nice as the picture.

Its a small resort, clean, but under staff. Breakfast was below average. Not much food/fruit though but if you are those who do not take much for breakfast then its sufficient.

The pool has no hotel staff around, 1st day i didn't even know where to get the pool tower until i went back to my room to get 1.

Wanted to order some drinks, but failed to see anyone.

This hotel although has 2 lifts, but not suitable for family with children as the hotel does not have a children pool. It's pool are all 1.4m deep.

Great hotel, amature staff

by REUVEN KOGAN from Israel, 15 Nov 07

I had a good time staying in this lovely hotel (21-25 OCT). The hotel situated 50 meters from the main road in a very quiet area. The swimming pool is a complex of 3 big swimming pools with a very nice design and deep water (1.5m). sun beds are scatered around and big towel supplied at the pool.

The breakfast had a large selection of food and take place around the pool. The quality of the food is average.

I stayed in a deluxe room in 4th floor which was very big and had a beautiful design and a big balcony with nice view.
In room were coffee and tee facilities and 2 umbrellas to use in rainy days.

The shower is big and separated from the bath tube. There is a window that open from the bath room to the room.

The bad thing about the hotel is the staff that need to get a lot of training: we arrived at 11 in the morning and they give us the room only at 3:00.. when we go inside we noticed that the bathroom door can not be closed so they suggest to us to use the bathroom without the door for 1 day so they will take it off for repairs !! .. after 1 more hour they manage to find someone that fix the door without taking it.. this situation make me smile a lot...
In another they we back to the hotel in the evening but we had to wait 30 more minutes until they found the key to our room.

If the staff of this hotel was more professionals it was perfect.. but still i enjoyed a lot to stay here.

I'd like to go back sometimes.

by กัลยา เลิศเรืองวุฒิ from กรุงเทพ, Thailand, 9 Oct 07

I don't like just 2 things of it
- The wooden area around the mattress.
- and TV has such a few channels.

Other than that are very good. Such a good value.

ASIAN TOURIST...

by Aduka Wifey from Singapore, 1 Jul 07

The location was excellent - convenient to shopping area, massage, beach, restaurant, etc. But the staff attitude (the receptionist) towards ASIAN tourist - needs a lot of improvement. They were somehow rude, but three of them are nice and polite. The hotel is a little bit too noisy because the construction in the hotel itself and the construction of new buildings nearby. Also, the bathroom tap water (heater) is inconsistent - it can be really hot even when you have adjusted the water to your preferred level. If not for all these inconvenience, the hotel should be a great place to stay.

Value, but with a big caveat

by anthony e. foley from miami, 9 Oct 06

Positives: breakfast buffet, service, friendly staff, price, pool and location. We liked the fact that it was situated on the northern side of town, about 250 meters from the dock where the long tails departed.

Negatives: ultra hard bed and never ending construction noise all day long (and into the night as well). Not only was the hotel itself undergoing renovations, but there were new properties being constructed on all sides as well. (one new property now completely blocks whatever view there was of the ocean)

Overall I would stay here again if I was sure that there wasn't construction going on. Loved the staff.

Great place!!

by Beny Yap from Singapore, 4 Jul 06

I booked a room with private jacuzzi for 2 days. But on the first day, I was given one without a jacuzzi due to a lack of the room with jacuzzi. But I WAS NOT even informed about it when I checked in. It was only until I went to the room, looked around then realised it, and I have to called up the reception to verify before they admit to giving me a lower grade room. But as compensation, they gave me free dinner.

Other than this hiccup, all was smooth, the place is beautiful and clean.

Highly recommended hotel, but try to avoid booking the room with private jacuzzi...it's not what it seems. The jacuzzi is just segregated from the pool by a small railing, which is not secured and some other patrons did climbed over the railing to use my jacuzzi to my dismay. The rooms with private pool is a great choice though.

Good, but due to constructions not advisable

by Wouter, 20 Jun 06

The hotel overall was pretty good. The location was about 5-10 minutes walk from the beach. The hotel itself looks good, the rooms are really spacious, and for the price paid (1350 Bath, p/n incl breakfast) it was really good value.

The hotel is relatively new. The swimming pool is excellent, do not expect to much from the hotel restaurant (and breakfast). However due to building constructions (from 7am to 11pm, every day!) in front and back of the hotel the stay was not that comfortable (the constructions are planned till mid July 2006, however in Thailand you can add several months, looking at the building site I do not expect it to be finished before end of 2006.

Secondly the English sufficiency of the hotel staff was really poor. Asking questions is no use, due to the fact English is unknown to them. We managed by pointing out things, which caused quite funny moments at the reception, but can be a big problem when you urgently need something.

We have switched hotel to Pavilion Queens Bay resort, a 4 (5) star hotel, which was about 1000bath more expensive (which is only about 25USD) but more than worth it. However, if you do not want to pay that price, and the construction work near La Playa is over, I can really advice you to go there.

Ok but...

by Lim Chong Lee from Malaysia, 30 May 06

It was enjoyable but the hotel has less facilities than we had imagined. The room is big but we are disturbed about the scenery (not much) and that was a construction going-on. Other than that it was still OK for the value as the main activities are out at the Ao Naung beach.

Almost got it right!

by Expat living in Singapore, 10 Jan 06

La Playa was well situated - 5 mins to two beaches and variety of restaurants. The hotel was attractive, comfortable and clean. My only negative comment was that we had to attend a compulsory Christmas Eve banquet - they put on adequate entertainment but the food was very uninspiring and even tho the table was piled high with fruit I couldn't have a piece of pineapple or papaya because it wasn't already cut! Drinks were also rather overpriced. Otherwise it was a good place to stay.
