Disappointed!

by andrew dryden from London, England, 17 Apr 07

I contracted food poisoning whilst at the resort after eating a bad piece of fish. The nurse confirmed it was likely to be food poisoning but the resort failed to reimburse any money despite the fact that I had a very uncomfortable 36 hours in my room!

Secondly the resort advertises as a family resort, and yet does not cater for small children.

Our baby was 6 months and we had to take ten days milk with us from London as they didn't cater for this at the resort, and we didn't know if we'd have time to pick some up on the way.

Also eating at restaurants was almost impossible. They only provided high chair for babies who are able to sit up on their own. As we traveled without a pram, dinner time were spent taking turns holding the baby, which made enjoying a meal impossible. The staff tried hard to help but they couldn't make up for the lack of facilities.

I accept that the resort is on a remote island, but considering all the other facilities this is not an excuse. By Thai standards the resort is ordinary and barely value for money, the room are starting to look tired and the food (except the Thai restaurant) were also disappointing. Thank goodness for the usual Thai welcome from the staff.

Even without the baby problem and the food poisoning I would have rated the hotel as average, with it it comes out as below par!

Really nice with a few drawbacks

by schittenhelm oliver from Germany, 8 Nov 05

It is really a lovely place, only disadvantages:

1: In the night you have to be in the resort, no possibility to go out therefore.
2: Prices, especially for food, drinks are expensive compared with locations outside the village

We accept higher prices because of the standard but we feel it a bit too expensive.

Simply heaven

by Maddy from Thailand, 19 Apr 07

I read the many good reviews about this place and decided upon it. I am glad to say I was not at all disappointed. The beach was awesome and the resort could not have been on a better beach. The water was crystal clear and I love the privacy of it all.

The rooms were spacious and I love the big patio/decks where you can chill. They have one of the best pools I have ever seen and I have seen MANY pool. The kids loved it too!

Only "complain" I have is the food. As the resort is on a private beach, you don't really have much choice when it comes to food. There are 2 restaurants at the resort. A cafe where they serve western and local food, and a high class Thai restaurant up on the cliff where you pay over 400 bht per dish. The food was average and be prepared to spend at least 1000 bht per meal if you have a family. Apart from that, I'd say it was a top notch resort in terms of location, rooms and rates.

Unbelievable value for this exotic resort... Must see to believe

by Keith from Long Beach, 17 Aug 05

This resort is amazing. I have been twice and I am going for a third time. The spa is first class as is the diving. The food is very good as well. Bear in mind that they have on dining room for the entire resort so one may wait some time for service. (Don't be in a hurry). The beach is unusual in the sense that the depth is about 20 inches and goes out daily with the tide (about 150 feet) so that there is no real beach swimming or body surfing. But they just built one amazing swimming pool with a swim up bar.

This place is worth the money and the adventure getting here. The ferry is a fun trip but I recommend a private boat if possible. (I state location couldn't be better..Bear in mind it is one of the most remote places I have been on earth...2 hour ferry ride to resort) If you are trying to save money, rest assured that the least expensive rooms are excellent. They simply don't have a view. Be sure to make use of the spa and diving and you won't be disappointed. I am going for a week this next trip.

PERRRRRRRRRFECT!

by Jaymee Ilagan from Sydney, 10 Feb 06

Unbelievable experience wish we could have stayed longer. The staff were superb in every way. Only let down was the food which was fairly average and on the expensive side for Thailand, but this was acceptable as the entire resort is amazing!

Heaven on Earth

by Kristyn Young from Long Island, NY, 10 Jan 06

This place was the most amazing resort I have ever been to. As soon as we stepped off the ferry, the staff from the hotel was so polite and helpful. The hotel is most memorable for its service and beauty. Upon arrival at the resort, we were offered free tropical beverages and warm cloths to freshen up. Among its many other attributes, it's beauty is just as amazing. The resort is adorned with beautiful flowers and the pool was amazing! We stayed in the beach front studio, and it was the best resort stay I've ever experienced!

Paradise

by Phil G from Perth, Australia, 24 Jun 06

We travelled as a family with young kids (2+6) to the PP Island Village Resort. Although the resort is not particularly aimed at kids, they were well catered for and the staff were a dream. There were a number of other children also staying at the resort.

Some detailed comments:

- Location is fantastic and paradise can't be much different from this place! The only drawback is having to travel by boat to get just about anywhere else on PP. Lots of meals at the hotel restaurant... The isolation is also a big plus! The restaurant is very good at the resort, and priced accordingly. A small and more local restaurant does exist just over the bridge on the track to Lana Bay. Less expensive and the food was alright. We were the only customers when we ate there but the food was fine.

- The service here was fantastic with the staff enthusiastically attending to our every need and constantly drooling over our two year old. It may sound cheesy, but I have this image in my mind of one of the staff standing on the beach amongst the backdrop of coconut palms waving to us for a good 5 minutes as the boat we were leaving on disappeared into the distance. That's service I thought...

- We utilised the babysitting facilities - 400Baht per hour. All good.

- The bungalows were comfortable. Authentic and not as well appointed as a similarly priced hotel, but entirely suitable for the remote location.

- Stunning landscaping, beach and swimming pools.

- Great snorkeling experiences.

- Fine breakfast, with a good selection.

- The Reun Thai restaurant (fine dining restaurant associated with the resort) was a wonderful experience for us parents (with the kids being babysat). Great food, wine and service of course.

- The Wana spa proveds great massages. I had a 90 minute massage and treatment which was excellent. The spa itself is also delightful.

- In conclusion, we had a fantastic time and the whole family was well rested, well fed and enthusiastically looks forward to returning one day...

The highlight of our honeymoon

by G.T. from Israel, 14 Sep 06

The hotel's amazing. We couldn't have had a better time. However, don't expect your stay to be cheap - after paying for the room you will be paying for this great experience, as food, drinks and activities cost more than they usually do in Thailand. The money is, however, well spent.

Highly recommended

by McFarlanes from UK, 12 Aug 07

This is a really beautiful beach and hotel - truly an island paradise. We stayed in the cheaper rooms without seaview which I can thoroughly recommend as the gardens are beautifully landscaped and our balcony seemed very private as it was screened from passers -by. Some of the more expensive accommodation had sea views but anyone using the beach could see onto your balcony.

Incidentally we saw a lot of wildlife in the resort - butterflies, exotic birds and a preying mantis! The resort is very isolated which is it's main charm. It was difficult to get to other areas of the island as you need to travel by boat, but the bits we saw weren't as nice as where we were staying anyway.

Save your shopping for Phuket, and I would recommend getting a speedboat or seaplane to the resort if your budget allows as the ferry trip is a good two hour journey. I would also recommend visiting the locals village round the back of the resort - some cheap bars and food (basic standard but much cheaper than the resort) and we had a Thai massage for a fraction of the Spa price.
