We decided to go to Pimalai instead of Bali and Hawaii because my friends was there last years and they highly recommend Pimalai for me, and I really like it!!! we would never imagine that there are very luxury resort amid the rain forest, it's luxury yet very exotic the modern Thai decoration and the unbelievable private 1 km beach!!!!! I love it......and will surely return to Pimalai again for my next silver wedding :-) kawaei...yasui.

Excellent 5 star resort

by Hermione Ledger from England, 31 Jan 06

We spent 6 nights of our honeymoon at the Pimalai on Koh Lanta. The resort and service was excellent. Staff are very friendly and we even spent the night with some of them at the local Mai Thai Sports Stadium.

Though expensive in comparison to Thai prices, was not as expensive as we expected; you can expect to pay around US20 for a 3 course meal. Drinks however are quite expensive; around US1.10 for a coke, US2.50 for a beer, and US3.50 for a spirit. However there is a Thai restaurant next door "Same Same but Different" is probably a better alternative than the Rice & Spice Restaurant if you don't have a limitless budget.

The beach is average but quite; head south for the best beaches; Northern beaches are busy and can be dirty.

If you like diving; shop around. There is a small village that you can book trips, arrange trips and hire bikes from to get around, to and from the island.

Mixed Review

by Anonymous User from Montana, 7 Mar 06

Like everything service and accommodation. Disliked the fact I was not told when reservations were made the resort was partially closed during our visit. I wanted to go diving, but the dive center was closed for two days I was there, and the upper restaurant and pool were closed because someone had reserved these services for another party. Was very disappointed by this knowledge after we arrived. Also the food was not five star, very average for what I expected. If I had been told this before reserving room there, I would have booked another resort.

Fair value

by C Weaver from resident in Singapore, 21 Apr 06

Resort is very clean and staff are very friendly. Room was also nice and the beach is great. Service was a little slow at times considering the prices for food and drink, which are around 5 star hotel prices. Transfer to and from the airport was efficient.

Stranded on the island.

by Bill Krakov from Boston Massachusetts, 7 Jul 06

Was there at the beginning of June, the hotel is very clean, the beach was not yet as calm and as much as I though it would be. The resort opened a new area on top of the hill.

Recommended !! for couples on a honeymoon trip, if it's your family vacation, forget it. It's a sweet resort. still, your kids will have no place to be running around.

Pimalai pimalai

by Anonymous User from holland, 16 Aug 06

Pimalai was much bigger than we expected, they are expanding the villas up the hill, but we were not bothered by the construction. Everyone was very friendly, food good, but quite expensive. Alex who picked us up at Krabi meant to be helpful and funny but was way too much for us!

Would stay there again, if there were not so many Muslims on the island, as they are not as friendly as the Thai people. Transport to Phuket from the hotel is way too expensive, try the travel agent along the beach, very friendly and a third of the price!
