Where to go to ruin a honeymoon

by Troy from Melbourne Australia, 24 Feb 06

To sum up quickly, the Bay View Resort was the most unpleasant stay I have spent money on in many years of travel. I would strongly recommend you do not book here.

On checking in we had to wait several hours to access our room. However, this gave us an opportunity to meet some people checking out. Unfortunately, this is when we begun hearing stories of days without running water in rooms (and so no toilet or shower). And being told that no number of requests for this to be remedied were acted on.

When we got into our room we soon found that both the toilet and the air conditioner were leaking water. Then when I tried to call reception I found the telephone did not work at all. Unfortunately it was quite a hike down the hill to reception & back up to the room. And as none of these problems were fixed during our stay it wasted approximately 15 mins each time I needed to speak to reception.

The air conditioner’s leak progressively got worse and when we arrived back to our room after dinner on the first night we found half our room flooded, including our bags.

To top this off our room also lost power several times (for hours at a time) throughout the stay, which was an inconvenience for obvious reasons.
After feeling we could no longer be patient I spoke to the resort's owner/manager to express our concerns. Following the conversation the manager agreed to refund our money. However, I was then informed that this refund would not come from the resort, but out of the pocket of his staff, who neither could afford it, nor should have to.

Of course when we checked out of the resort the manager had disappeared and was unavailable to speak with. I was then pointed in the direction of the marketing manager to deal with us, who again did not seem to care at all about the situation.

Phi Phi Island is a stunning island. But please do yourself a favour and stay somewhere else so your time is not tarnished as ours was. Our stay at Bayview was unpleasant, and our communications with them since to come to a resolution have been treated with contempt.

If you want waste your money and mood, then this is the place

by Simon Hurst from England, 18 Sep 06

People are very friendly. But after coming to this resort, I realized some Thai people are really very bad. I'll never think of staying this resort again and I also request others not to visit these unfriendly people.

Bay View people are racist

by Gautam from Pune, India, 16 Sep 06

I found the hotel at a beautiful location. But I found the manager and owner don't like Asians that much specially people from South Asia. They charged more from them. If u are an Indian than you won't see smile at their face. I won't prefer to stay in this venue again. Though place is beautiful but i won't except insult because we are Asians. That's bad.

We Had A Lovely Stay

by Cliff Baker from London,UK & Khon Kaen,Thailand, 10 Oct 05

Stayed in a Grand Deluxe villa, room was a good size with TV & tea making facilities, the veranda which had loungers, chairs & table was just lovely. The highlight was the view we had as this room was on the front line of all the rooms, so had nothing but trees, sea & Phi Phi Lee to view...just fantastic.

The only downside was that the bathroom was not quite up to the room standard & could do with modernising, but it was acceptable. But at this price (we were there in low season) & for this location, pretty good.

I would recommend it, but may think twice when prices more than double in November.

Overpriced but could be a fantastic place

by Francesca from Manchester, England, 9 Mar 06

We checked into a Superior Room, which had stunning views from the balcony. The room itself was pretty awful. Very basic, old and shabby. The bathroom was awful. There were insect eggs on the walls and we decided, after careful consideration, that we didn't want to stay for 4 nights in such poor accommodation. We went for a walk to look around the resort as we didn't want to cause a big scene in reception while people were checking in. We went to have a look at alternative accommodation and prices and then went back to the hotel to speak to the manager. We explained the situation and asked for a free upgrade or our money back.

Within 10 minutes, we were offered a triple upgrade to the resorts Arayaburi accommodation in a Grand Deluxe Villa. After viewing the room, we agreed to stay. The room was very nice, but I certainly wouldn't have booked it at the price being asked. You can get similar accommodation for much less on Phi Phi. Having said that, we enjoyed our stay, but be warned, you have to be quite fit to stay here as all accommodation is spread over a steep hilly area. Breakfast was OK, catered for all nationalities.

I would stay here again, but only if the hotel brought the prices down. The staff were not the friendliest or most helpful people that we met in Thailand, and little information was given to us about the resort, which meant that we didn't really spend any money there.

Nice holiday location

by Nathan Thiesse and Tanida Leausuk from USA and Thailand, 9 Feb 06

Room was very nice, reception staff very friendly and helpful, but room cleaning could be better (only changed linens, but floor should be mopped everyday, soap and shampoo should be checked everyday, drinking glasses should be cleaned). Was perfect distance from main town, walks along beach every night was very nice.

Great location

by alexandre liskauskas de paula gomes from Brazil, 7 Mar 06

The hotel is not quite new and charms , but has the best location for who wants to enjoy the night at the city but wants a calm beach. It's also near to go to Phi Phi Lay (amazing!!!)

But book the best room and ask for the rooms at the first row, with best views

I 'd be back for sure!!!!

Highly recommended

by Rebecca Marsh from Yeovil Somerset England, 9 Apr 06

Great location. Near enough to walk into Tonsai yet away from the bustle of the town. The setting was beautiful. Our grand deluxe bungalow overlooked the bay and Phi Phi Ley. It was very clean and comfortable. Although it was a steep walk up to the bungalows there were golf trolleys that gave us lifts when we needed them.

I would certainly return to Bay View Resort next year and I have recommended it to other members of the family who travel to Phi Phi to see the work that our charity the Piers Simon Appeal, started in memory of my nephew who died in the tsunami on Phi Phi, has achieved.

Phi Phi is definitely back on its feet again and I hope that visitors will return to this beautiful island.
