Pleasant times at the Baan Kraating Khao Lak
by PW from Switzerland, 3 Jan 07
A nice, small, natural and secluded resort located within a small forest on the hillside between the motor highway and a small rocky bay. The Baan Kraating Khao Lak provides rather simple and small but adequately fitted bungalows built on stilts. Some of the bungalows share two rooms, some are detached, but all are equipped with TV, AC and nice veranda providing sea view.
Swimming and beach combing is not possible directly at the resort, however, the long-stretched Khao Lak beach starts just around the corner of the small bay.
The resort does offer an attractive open-air restaurant providing very good food served by the excellent staff at reasonable prices. This clearly adds a nice incentive to spend more than just a couple of nights at the resort. The resort will also be happy to suggest and organize the excellent trips that can be made around the Khao Lak area, such as to the Similan Islands or to the Khao Suk national park & lakes.
All in all, you can't go wrong with the Baan Kraating unless you are on the lookout for a traditional beach resort.

We will come back.......
by Simone Schmidt from Germany, 23 Apr 07
Very nice setting...but also very natural...superb pool with nice view.
Lovely small bungalows with clean and nice bathroom.
The breakfast was a la carte...but was ok. No buffet breakfast. For dinner we went to restaurants in town (cheaper). But it looks nice at the restaurant.
We enjoyed our stay very much !!!!!!

Not suitable for families with young children
by J. van der Vorm from Holland, 26 Jan 08
Baan Krating is a pretty resort nestled on a hilltop, with a very good view of the Khao Lak beach and the ocean. We had one of the first row of chalets so we were very pleased with the view and the greenery around us.
The service of the staff were average, they are pretty laid back and will only attend to you if you have queries or complaints.
I wouldn't advise this resort to families with young children. We brought our 19 month old daughter and it was not possible for her to walk up and down the concrete stairs within the resort or down to the beach for that matter. It is not child-friendly at all. We also had to get the resort guys to secure the wooden balcony, which had wide gaps, big enough for my daughter to squeeze through.
Food-wise, the restaurant's fare is below average. However, there is a restaurant known as the 'Yellow Restaurant' (east of the resort) that offers delicious Thai food at very, very good prices, much better than the prices down town. Oddly, it is owned by Baan Krating too?
There is no beach front for Baan Krating since it is located on the hill. However these is a concrete platform just below the hill (quite an eyesore actually) where you can lounge on the deck chair (if you go early) and sip on the cheapest coconuts on the beach. The other resorts charge more than double for a fresh coconut.
I would recommend this resort as a means to stay near Khao Lak beach at affordable prices. It is easy to move around from Baan Krating to down, to other resorts and to the islands.
