Resort was great but probably won't return to Patong Beach (contains tips)
by David D from Victoria, Australia, 31 Jan 08
This resort seemed to meet all expectations. Apparently the rooms have been renovated recently, and they look very nice, and the beds are comfortable. There are two levels, ground and level 1. The level 1 room we had was with a shared bath and shower. The ground floor one also had a separate shower. There is a window partition between the shower/bath and the bedroom which was quite nice.
The people are very courteous and seemed to go without a hitch.
The swimming pool was always free - generally only a couple of people in there at a time.
The breakfast has very little variety but then that is probably not the reason you are going to Phuket.
Some tips for staying at Patong Beach:
1. Stay central if you don't like walking past many taxi drivers and tuk tuk drivers trying to get you into their vehicles. Coconut Village resort is a bit out of the way - 15 minute walk to the center.
2. Patong Beach absolutely stinks! yes - literally. It seems that the restaurants are chucking their food wastes into the grey water channels and it is giving a stench that can be smelt across the whole town.
3. We tried two massage places. ""Lets Relax"" was a more expensive one, but the massuers were very formal. The second one was called 5 star something or other. The massuers were very friendly and personable and the price is very good although you can get a bit cheaper.
4. The hotels don't tell you this but don't wash your teeth in the water from the tap. Couples have become sick from doing this. The water is untreated grey-water. Boil the water or buy mineral water.
5. Go see the Thai boxing matches. If you buy tickets early you can pay a lot of baht. But if you buy after it starts, then the price drops considerably. It is a great show nonetheless.
6. We ate at Savoy Restaurant the first night. The prawns and crabs are fantastic but a very steep price.
7. Beach at Patong Beach is ridiculously overpopulated. Other beaches such as Kata Beach are apparently a lot nicer.

An enjoyable stay
by N Robertson from Sydney, Australia, 29 Dec 06
My daughter and I had a twin deluxe room during December. The room was spotless and spacious. Beds a bit hard but that seems to be the case throughout Thailand. A large bathroom with separate bath. Location is good as it's away from the noisy areas but only a short walk. Breakfast was good .... while there was not much variety on a day to day basis, the overall quality of the food and different offerings was enough to provide the variety. The pool and general facilities were good. Ar on the tour desk was extremely helpful.
