Perfect Getaway!
by Debra I Mayfield from Houston, Texas, 13 Jul 05
The staff was extremely friendly, although the ladies at the front desk sometimes could not speak very much English. Nevertheless, the service was terrific. I highly recommend visiting the spa during your stay, as the Thai massage is a treat. Also, I would recommend staying in the suite, as the fresh flower adorned bathtub and the "outdoor" shower present a very romantic atmosphere. You'll feel like you're staying in a private paradise.
Finally, I wouldn't waste any time during your stay by taking the hotel's shuttle to Phuket town. There is nothing to see there, and the town is very dirty. You're better off spending your time at the lovely resort.

Paradise found
by Irene Burwin from Manchester, UK, 16 Aug 05
The pools and terraces are shaded by tall, elegant palm trees, a dose, a read, a massage, a pedicure perhaps, go on spoil yourself, the staff at this hotel are so happy to please, and so friendly, then its time for a bite of lunch, and drink or two, (if the suns gone over the yard arm!) Thai food is so good for you, and such a wide choice, you cant beat the fish dishes! but you can get almost anything, all of it tasty. I love the noodles, Mmmmmm, then a change of clothes, and a tut tut ride to any of the varied resorts along this coast line. A bit of shopping, or sight seeing, a boat trip, of just unwind. Visit the main towns or resorts, but you wait and see, you wont be able to wait to get back to this hotel, and the peace and quiet.
It was one of the very best of places me and my husband have ever stayed, and I would recommend it to everyone. (If you like a lot of night life on the complex, forget it, a beachside bar, good company, and theme nights for the evening buffet. If you want more, you have to go to the next resort.

Honeymooners Delight!

The rooms were gorgeous, with a fountain in the shower! Great views, great service and overall great stay. If the prices were a little cheaper ... I may come here every year!

A great family-friendly hotel
by Mrs L Evans from Hertfordshire, UK, 20 Dec 05
We were very glad that we had opted for a Junior Suite rather than a Family Room across the road in the Bhuri Wing. In my opinion the extra cost was worth it because we had lovely views of the grounds and the beach and it was a short walk to everything that we needed. Even though the Bhuri Wing is part of the whole hotel I think I would have felt like I was missing out a bit if we had stayed there.
The room was perfect for us as we were able to have the daybed made up into a single bed for our little boy. We found the whole hotel very family-friendly and the staff were exceptional. Special thanks go to Sophon in the Chom Talay restaurant where he looked after us every morning at breakfast! And to all the staff at the Coconut Bar and Fisherman's Wharf who couldn't do enough, especially for our son. We also recommend Jamnian, one of the lovely ladies who offer massages, manicures and pedicures by the pool - what a treat!
For the first few nights we ate on site at the hotel but when we realised that a tuk tuk was only 100 Baht into Kata we ate out there at night - there are some great restaurants and shops to look round so it is worth leaving the hotel. We also had a great Thai dinner one night at the far end of Kata Noi Beach at the open air restaurant right on the beach (part of the bungalow resort that you'll see going up the side of the hill). Unfortunately we didn't get to go to Mom Tri's Kitchen as it did look very nice!
I don't really have any grumbles about the place. Just remember to get down to the pool early if you want to get yourself one of the nice wooden sun loungers - I cottoned on after about four days that people were taking their towels down there very early before breakfast to get their loungers for the rest of the day.
I'd like to think that we will get to return to Kata Thani one day as it's a lovely, peaceful place... and great for families.

Nice but not really worth the value over Xmas
by Afsoongar, 29 Dec 05
The hotel is really managed as 2: the Bhuri wing (has its own lobby, pool, etc). If you go for the "Superior Family room" beware that it is the "worst" wing of the Bhuri side, right behind the standard section with very little view.
The Thani hotel "stuites" (really rooms) have a beautiful view but are not too large. That is where we stayed and paid about $400/night. I would suggest not going for the meal package as they do not deliver to the room or the pool... you'd have to eat at the restaurants & could not be used for drinks (as expected). I think the difference in $ was little enough that really not worth the hassle. I think we could have done better but did enjoy the stay. Hope this helps!

5 star resort? You must be kidding!
by Annonymous User, 14 May 07
One more suggestion - if you get brave to reserve this hotel, don't fall for one of their advertised packages - the meals are selected from a special menu, including over salted soup, badly prepared fish and 'home-made' ice cream no store would sell under any brand name.
'Benz' airport transportation is provided by a car needing the same treatment as this hotel does! I have stayed in many three star hotels in the past that would easily surpassed Katathani in quality and service.
