Astonishing value

by Gary O' Bryan from Benoni South Africa, 20 Jan 06

We stayed here in early November 2004....Monsoon season and for 11 nights!!

The swimming pools, 3 of them are awesome especially the large Chabu pool. The open sided main restaurant was perfect for the lavish and most adequate and also unusual breakfast fare that was offered. We chose to splash out on one of the theme nights where there was a set dinner menu and a 2 piece band. Considering that we are more adventurous travellers and had already found good and clean establishments to eat substantial local fare for 3-4 USD a head we thought the 20USD price per head rather expensive...but then that's typical of Hotels around the world...who have massive staff complements and overheads..Unfortunately there were 5 couples on the night in an area that can accommodate possibly 2-300 people. It was still fun and we got to chat to the band and also got to join them in a few songs on an electric guitar much to the extreme amusement of the staff...all of them are seemingly obliged to be there even though there were minimal clientele and it seemed such a waste.

Needless to say for the rest of the stay we were rather infamous and got even more attentive service.

The sea facing upstairs room was acceptable and spacious enough. The reality though is that the sea view rooms first overlook a tatty piece of land where local Tuk Drivers seemed to congregate at 6 a.m. in the Morning with the associated noise levels. Considering that the Peach Hill Resort is on a Road off the main though-fare that leads to a peninsula it was rather hoped that it would be totally peaceful and tranquil at all times. In the future I think I will reserve a pool view room in the complex behind the Chabu pool.

Getting to the splendid Kata main beach is easy enough...going there is a 6 -7 minute walk down a VERY steep hill, of course getting back takes a while longer. We hired a Jeep from Alex in Patong for 12USD a day and besides some local moron riding into us, it was a real treat to not have to walk up that hill again. For anyone considering going to Phuket it is highly recommended to check out the website www.alexmalcolm.net.

As an overall impression it was astounding value for money and we made the best of the fact that it was Monsoon season and DID rain every day.

Also EVERYTHING in Phuket is negotiable. We paid half what some American Guests had paid for a 2 hour massage at there resort in Karon. We found a private very luxurious and very comfortable salon in Kata South , just off the main road..They then joined us for an hour and a half massage later in the week and were stunned by the attention and quality of the place....When will Tourists ever learn that Hotel prices are always much inflated??..

If Money is no object we would consider Mom Tri's Boathouse which is amazing and right on the Beach also Kata Beach Resort which is also a bit more expensive but also right on the beach with an awesome pool a few steps of the beach.

We have been going for six years, can't wait to go back!

by Margaret & Terry from North Yorkshire, England, 24 Oct 06

The location is excellent. It is so easy to get to the beautiful Kata and Karon beaches. Steep hill to some parts? Yes, but a complementary bus service, which will also take you to visit their five star sister hotel. The village is on your doorstep so if you want a change from the excellent, but hotel priced meals and drinks, there is a great selection of local restaurants and bars. Shopping too with great bargains, beauty salons and masseurs. Taxis and tuk tuks just outside (both charge the same) local bus stop- air conditioned buses (no windows).

The staff in this family owned hotel can not do enough for you.

The only snag is, it can sometimes be a little noisy if you are near the main road, if it is a problem they will change your room!

Am going to Krabi in Oct ... would rather be coming back here

by Anonymous User from Australia, 28 Jul 08

We booked into Peach Hill but upgraded to Peach Blossom the next day. ($35 extra for 5 nights!!!!) Peach Hill rooms were fine but a little tired. Not quite enough room for 3 of us.

Rooms at Peach Blossom were pretty good, very clean, big bathroom, big bottle of water each every day, tea & coffee making facilities. Grounds are lovely, well tended..saw a couple of squirrels. The pool at Peach Hill is nicer than Peach Blossom and so are the breakfasts.

The hill up to Peach Hill is a tad tiring but there is a seat half way. The hill to Peach Blossom is really steep but shorter & easier to walk up than the Peach Hill one. The boys at the desk were always happy to drop us down the street and come back at an arranged time to pick us up. Never expected a tip but they were so obliging we always gave them one.

Close to Kata & Karon Beaches.I prefer Kata. Easy to catch local bus to Patong or Phuket Town. Good local shopping
Really enjoyed staying here.

Will not go back

by Henrich from canada, 30 Jan 06

The place is in a decent location. The pool and grounds are very nice. The staff was helpful and friendly. The hotel and its rooms are neglected and could use some renovations and some fresh paint. The breakfast buffet was not very good.
