Lovely hotel but won't stay in superior rooms again!
by Mr Charles Broughton from Perth, WA, 1 Apr 06
All other (more expensive) rooms were in the main block with good access and lifts. Even though the hotel was not full, they were going to charge us full price to move to the other block when I explained to them that my husband's limited eye sight made it hazardous for him to approach this entry. The other problem was the lack of English spoken and understood by their reception staff.

Can't wait to go back!!!!
by Wendy Barre from Vancouver, Canada, 2 Apr 06
Beach was very close and we all went there to do some awesome body surfing. When we were in Phuket we were told that Karon Beach was the best beach in Phuket, we spent two days at Surin Beach Resort, two days at Karon Beach and two days at Kata Beach (Sugar Palm) and Sugar Palm wins hands down. We all were sad to leave this resort.
The price was very reasonable, cheap compards to Canada. We paid $81.00 a night per room (Deluxe pool access) Which in Canada for a room like this you would likely pay easily $300.00 a room. Room rate included buffet breakfast. The have a seafood restaurant for lunch and dinner. We had dinner there, reastuarnt is called Jasmines seafood restaurnat. Prices were much cheaper for seafood here that at Surin Beach or any other restaurant around Kata Beach that we could find.

Lovely Hotel. Hope it stays that way.
by Vernice from Singapore, 29 Jun 06
Loved how Thai flavour is infused into modern architecture/furnishings. The website photos don't lie, at all!
Very conveniently located to restaurants, cafes, clothes, shoes & fashion shops, travel shops, massage places, hawker places, beach shops, 7-elevens, a mini mart, a bank, etc. No need to even go to town (rates as good once you bargain), but if you have the itch, the bus station is located just in front (was 25baht to Phuket Town, passes by Karon beach which is beautiful but not as lovely as Kata beach. Kata Beach has shady Palm trees, and we could even swim in the waters though it was monsoon season.)and so are lots of tuk tuks and other forms of transports parked there.
Very safe, colourful night scene, though not as notorious or hectic as Patong's, but we preferred it such. Lovely restaurants around, but Jasmine Restaurant really is very good value for money. The breakfast was lovely, either American, Continental or Thai; order from a menu. Lots of choices within each set, and staff were very attentive. When my friend was sick, they even sent up breakfast to her. Twice!
Housekeeping was very friendly, spa staff very gracious, and night staff very helpful.
The rooms are very beautifully furnished. We loved the vibrant colours. We got upgraded to a Deluxe room for free though we paid for Superior rooms as the latter were under repairs. Could not have asked for more. Beautiful poolview, and very relaxing. Only drawback is that the bathtub (and the toilet too in fact) is partitioned from the bedroom by only a frosted almost flush doors, so offers little privacy. Nice for couples especially those on honeymoon, but we were 2 lady friends only.
Appreciated the in room safe, 2 complimentary 600ml bottled waters daily, electric kettle, flip flops, beach towels, bathrobes, extra pillows, and the comfy sofa beds etc.
They also sent up a plate of nice complimentary Thai desserts each night of our stay.
The pool is really nice (though not that big, sufficient), and the spa (only 2 rooms) though small is good. Sauna is OK, steam room was not working then, jacuzzi is real nice, and the pool deck is great. Poolside bar was good too. Very good use of limited space.
For those considering Superior room, I had a look see: Superior block has no lift, bathtub (thus no frosted doors/windows), has a microwave though, but is above the restaurants so loud music streams in especially during late evenings. But the balcony doors are quite sound proof though it may not eliminate all noise. It is located near the small car park. It doesn't have the beautiful view of the pool, though it overlooks the shops and the hotel entrance and a nice pond.

Good spot, will go back...
by Waz from NZ, 20 Jul 06
Beach is only a 2 minute walk and nice for swimming, not crowded with jet skis and parachutes like Patong. Restaurants and bars within walking distance are very good, hit the end of the soi turn right and check out Oyster or Phuket Lobster and Prawn restaurant for great fresh seafood.
Next soi up has many bars and restaurants, outdoor pizza best in Phuket, best to give this one a a miss, bar across soi has live music which is OK but also seems to have a resident ting tong Englishman, bar staff apologise but he can spoil the music.
Other bars up there are OK for a relaxing drink without getting hassled to much.

Great hotel with Pesty bellboy
by Erma from Singapore, 15 Dec 06
Our departure flight was in the evening but had to check out by 12 pm as they can't extend the check out time. I ask whether they had any shower facilities as I still want to spend the afternoon by the beach. The told me they will give us a room to shower. I did not expect much and must say I was very impressed when they gave us a Fresh hotel room (Pool access room mind you) to shower. Of course we did not dare to make a mess in the room and felt quite bad for the chambermaid to had clean up the bathroom.
Breakfast was pretty disappointing as they did not had much variety and i cant take pork.
Overall service was quite good especially for the front desk ppl except I was pretty pissed by the bell boy. He was the first bell boy I encounter to ask, expect and sorta demand for tips. I am a hospitality graduate and work in the service industry and TIPS are meant to be given when we received good service. This bellboy was pretty rough and definitely did not give us good service. Just by carrying our bag (only 1), he expect us to tip him.. Come on isn't that the job of the bell boy..? In fact I did tip him upon our arrival as he was hanging around our room after showing us to the room. (That was ok). Its just that he kept on asking us whether we needed any tours, transportation and would not buzz off even when we had arranged our own transport. He ask how much we did our own tours, chartered car and wanted us to change our transport (Back to airport). On the last dae when he lead us to our "shower room" , me n my bf was too occupied trying to shower and get done to pack our stuff and that was when the pesty bellboy really hang around the room asking is there anything we needed bla bla bla bla. Me n my bf wanted to test him and purposely did not want to tip him (Coz he realli pissed me off about my transport thingy) . When we were done waiting at the hotel lobby, he was kinda rude asking us about a towel we borrowed but had already returned. When our car came, he took our bag and the other bellboy told my bf, he help u, u tip him... (hmmmm...) and when that pesty bellboy carried our bag he told my bf (I carry for u, u tip me..) I was super pissed of course and just gave him 20 batt to buzz off..
Sugar palm was a great hotel (and its not that cheap) but with bellboy like him... I will say it does ruin my stay and would not wish to come back there..

Fantastic value for money!
by N Lee from Mount Waverley, VIC, Australia, 24 Feb 07
The breakfast was great...especially the eggs. The main restaurant 'Mali' which used to be Jasmines is also great. The Rock Lobster and Andaman Seafood Platter were delicious. Also try the pineapple shakes...non-alcoholic but very tasty!
It is a 3 minute walk to the beach (on flat ground).
You have to pay 200 baht for 2 sun lounges and an umbrella. I would go early and book a spot ... put your towels on it and then go back whenever you want. They are a bit hard to get later in the day when it gets busy. Also you must try a pizza on the beach...they were great and we didn't even need to get out of our bathers!
I must recommend the massage parlour Happy Friend about 5 doors down from the Sugar Palm lobby. We had massages every day...not only were they cheap and gave fantastic massages...the girls were all so friendly. You must get a foot massage when you arrive...I had huge swollen ankles from the long plane trip and they were gone after the massage.
Also if you want to book any other activities (ie. Phuket Fantasia, Phi Phi tours, Phuket zoo, or even transfers to the airport) DON'T book at the hotel! You must visit Paam who is just around the corner between Wild Wave' surf clothing store and an optometrist (he has a table in front of a little jewelry stall). He will give you the best price on tours...but remember to bargain!
Anyway, I would definitely recommend Sugar Palm for families, couples and friends. Although the receptionists don't speak much English ... we managed to get everything we wanted. They are all very polite and friendly.

The Purper room was fantastic!
by Marga from The Netherlands, 30 Mar 07
Except there was not a possibility to print from the internet and when checking out they didn't put our luggage in the luggage room (when we came back after 2 hours we had to ask to place our luggage in the luggage room).
